B.P.R 2,798
Well, The powers that be must think I'm made of money Had the dogs out before for a mooch, the lab x was running about with a stick as she usually does. She came back to me coughing up blood. Got her home and she was fine..... Fed her about 6 o'clock and she didn't touch it..... Alarm bells started ringing- she would eat anything! I know my dog and she wast right. Got off to the vets and the dog that got in the car wasn't the dog that got out. She was frothing at the mouth and blood all over the place..... Carried her into the vets and they took her straight through. Vet sedated her straight away and examined her. She has a 4 1/2 inch stick impaled in the back of her throat. Left her there and waiting on a call to collect her around midnight. Unless she has to stay in due to complications. The vet said the problem with inner throat Injuries is infection, you can't see it developing until the symptoms are showing outside the dog and by then it's I'm a very serious state. Has anybody had any experience with with throat problems and if so any advice to keep on top of it? The dog wasn't showing anything wrong and it was the fact I could tell something wasn't right with her that I got in touch with the vets. In the 20 minutes from the house to the vets the dog went from ok to a mess and I'm glad we got it in time. Feck knows if I'd have a dog if we had gone to bed. Breathing a sigh of relief there. littlefish 585
Good useful post to highlight the danger of sticks. Best not to encourage dogs to play fetch etc with sticks. Use a proper safe toy with no sharp edges. Saw a springer one time who had been horiffically injured in the mouth playing fetch with a stick. It was so bad and left such a memory that to this day, if I see folks throwing sticks for thier dogs I try to warn them.............some people, of course, don't want to know....but hey, you can only try. Hope your dog is ok.
