max abell 196
Always feed the ferrets at night there is always plenty of food in the court and quite often still some rabbit etc left in the morning box them up and they work fine never had any problems doing it this way personaly i think this starving idea is a big mistake Quote Link to post
Malt 379
I always give mine the usual feed the day before. Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Just feed them as per normal, all this starving idea is as out of date as feeding bread and milk and muzzling ferrets. Move on and forget the old tales, give em normal rations Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I give them a good feed in the evenings, and usually chuck in a rabbit or two, and sometimes a bit of dry (there are ten ferrets together), They eat as they please, and sometimes even get the odd bit of kidney etc during the day if im feeling generous. They work because they love to hunt. Having said this, none of my ferrets are over fed, they are always ready for the grub when it hits the courts floor, and you can tell that they are fed enough to be strong and healthy, but not enough to make them slow and lazy. 1 Quote Link to post
Tug 168
Mine have food in 24/7 with the exception of when they are working I take their bowl out just before I lock up and go to bed. This was advice given to me by a very well known professional ferreter. 1 Quote Link to post

Looks like you have found the balance there Ideation, its not about starving them at all, its about keeping them in shape. Mine have food every day, and like Tug has just said, the night before, the food is taken out. (they get the livers at the end of the day though!) Quote Link to post

Mine love a bit of liver or kidney at the end of a days work. My mates don't have good manners like mine and usually end up getting a bit of hand too :@ Quote Link to post
