dublin dezzy 1,023
can understand giving the dog chance after chance if its your only dog,i for one certainly wouldnt be wasting my time with a dog like that, theres enough dogs there to be worked, time will tell, all the best with him Quote Link to post

Rhodey 96
I've always taken mine ferreting and he's not allowed to put his head into the holes or push the nets. And as a result i've never had him do more than sniff a rabbit hole. Edited January 25, 2012 by Rhodey Quote Link to post
lukey 1,621
How long was the dog in before you dug him out? Ther was a few times when my dog was young I could have dug to her quicky to get her out of rabbity places but I stood back n let her get bored n come out on her own, was worth it as she went from going down trying to dig into them to having a wee sniff about the hole then just walking past. Dont make a fuss when your around places where rabbits could be just let the dog have a run over the holes, if he dosnt fly to ground on a fox then get him back on the strap asap n walk away. If your dog is keen n knows his job he wont spend much time outside sniffing holes, and if he dose then thats when you get hold of him. JMHO 1 Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Heard of a hunt terrierman who dug 4 ft to his dog baying at a cock pheasant this season In front of about 10 onlookers As long as he/she wasnt baying away like a trooper I would say you dont have much to worry about. JMHO thats proably the problem, im leading him to holes on the lead, i think ill take him off the lead a good distance away, he used to sniff the holes and if nothing was home he would just run on Heard of a hunt terrierman who dug 4 ft to his dog baying at a cock pheasant this season In front of about 10 onlookers As long as he/she wasnt baying away like a trooper I would say you dont have much to worry about.
