tote 856
Decided to have a wee mooch this morning with my son Dylan and the lurcher Molly, this was to be Molly's first run out for 3 weeks as she cut the back of her leg while out lamping and with it healing well I reckoned she was due a mooch. When we arrived we started walking up through the first field and a rabbit got up next to the dyke, Molly was off after it and it ran uphill then through a gateway and turned back downhill eventually going through a fence and into a patch of thick cover. I got to the dyke in time to see Molly flying over the fence but fully expected the rabbit to be gone but seconds later I heard it squealing and on looking was surprised to see Molly standing in a thick clump of brambles with the rabbit in her mouth. She then had a bit of a job trying to get out of the tangle before retrieving the rabbit back to hand. We then passed a couple of buries which Molly showed no interest but the next one was occupied according to the bitch. Dylan soon had the nets on and entered the young jill. There was no action for 5-10 minutes but eventually a rabbit hit the net, the jill surfaced soon after and it was obvious the rabbit had took a bit of persuading to leave the bury. We did run the older jill through the bury but it only held the one rabbit. So onto the next bury which Molly had marked. Dylan put the ferret in and minuted later a rabbit hit the net, rolled and managed to throw the net before going through a fence and into a nearbye wood with Molly on it's scut, this time she came back empty mouthed. Soon after we heard a rabbit squealing underground, it was soon located at 6" under the surface and was quickly recovered from a stop end. We ended with 3 rabbits which would keep the ferrets fed for a bit then headed off home as we had logs to cut in the afternoon. 4 Quote Link to post
