BIGLURKS 874
They do in Oz but the lads I went out with dint like much longdog in there crosses there crosses have too put up with the heat and ruff ground u got too think of the ground is not like ours all smooth ground it's all brush and and ground that is rooted too f**k by the hogs Think 70% of the pigdogs here have some sort of longdog in them, the longdog (roodog/staghound) have been hunting rough rocky brush and bush areas for hundreds of yrs on faster game than pigs, ground is rarely a problem for the runners here any more than other breeds Yes mate the ones I seen did have long dog but were more bully then long dog would of loved too bring back some pups from a mate of mine in quensland they were dogs that impressed me for the size they were seen them run on Roos and pigs they were not the fastest of dogs I've ever seen but bye god they would tackle lions if the lad let them Quote Link to post

HALTY LAD 92
Ive hunted in Oz, and the America's north and south, each place has different challenges.Queensland seemed very easy, some of the pigs were not even affraid of us approaching,. and they are no way as fast as a wild boar in Europe. Some of the dogs we had with us had no longdog blood, but still caught plenty. The same dogs wouldnt get near pigs in other countries but would hold anything they got to grips with. I have great memories of Australia, but hell they like to rib each others methods! all in good humour! When Im out with folk I never say hey why dont you use so-and so dogs or do it like they do,.. folk like to do things their own ways, and Im happy enough to be part of a successful hunt in whatever country Im in, with whatever dogs they use even if they could dramatically improve them,. 2 Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
The kinda breeds that I was shown while out there were half cross bull grey back too there bull crosses and some of them had collie kelpie and a few staghound cross but most of them were more bit bull type dogs so I think alot of them would say why change some thing that works was that in oz buddy what about that cross in texas i reakon there is not much choice out there if there is why arnt they using any ? Yea mate was in Oz and yea I think they do the yanks take it as serious as us when it comes too dogs and the one thing u got too remember is the heat out there and I think it will differ from state too state the dogs they use and that is only one family there will be loads out there some of the USA boys can prob say more on the subject Quote Link to post
