jayhawk 41
Headed out to the farm this morning before light as im working at 3pm the two cockers and two brindles box full of ferrets and a mix of purse and longnetts, lots of rabbits crossing in front of the van on the way into the yard which is always a good sign. Had a chat with the farmer he said he'd finished hedge cutting yesterday and could have shot loads had he a gun in the tractor, luckily they were left for us, we started in a wood bellow the farm with the purse nets after a mark from the dogs and that was the first rabbit bagged, the next warren they marked as we were about to net up a rabbit bolted without the ferrets even getting a sniff, the lurchers coursed it and it made its way back through the cover to the same warren,we gave it best as we didn't fancy a dig so early on. We moved out of the wood to the hedge rows again the dogs marking well and the cockers putting rabbits off the hedge to ground, we had a short dig to one,and while i was standing around i came across a dead very young rabbit which i assume wandered out of its burrow in the night and died from the cold. time for the longnetts to come into play only pursing the easy holes in the field. a good day 5 to the long netts dug two and two pursed we thought we were ending the morning on eight when back in the yard not 25yards from the van the cockers were marking strongly under an old trailer, longnetted around it ferret in and bingo a brucey bonus ending on 9 all the doe's were full with young as we expected after finding a young in the field, these our first of the season down here as ever i got plenty of pics to share hope you enjoy. i'll try uploading some using the iphone in work later (work lol) Quote Link to post
