chrismdd 787
Hi just want to share my experience with clothing choice and also ask for ideas. I always wear old hiking boots and never wellies as they always fill up with rubbish when crawling in hedges. A thick pair of walking socks or army issue and on top of these a pair of neoprene booties like windsurfers wear. On my legs I haven't found anything yet to beat a pair of ronhill running bottoms underneath a pair of cheap workmens trousers with knee inserts available from Toolstation. On my upper half a long-sleeved wicking top (hiking garment again) with a wicking t-shirt on top then a cheap fleece and finally a shooting waistcoat. Old army coat if weather turns bad. In addition I have a camo cap as this manages to stay on my head and not stolen by the brambles like my woolly hat. For clearing undergrowth and setting nets in nettles I have a pair of those flourescent backed gloves from Toolstation that you often see being used by workers in ASDA. The beauty of these gloves is that they fit well, protect well, keep you warm, you can still pick up/place intricate things and more importantly they are almost impossible to lose! The only thing I think I need is something decent to cover my upper half that is thornproof and won't be too sweaty when crawling through bramble/blackthorn hedges. Chris Quote Link to post
jocky 198
wax coat and treggings for me with boots and a wax cap. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Boots. Moleskins. Wax leggings or chaps. Shirt. Hoodie. Wax waistcoat. Wax stuff is thorn proof, the hoddie is handy is crawling under nasty stuff, and the moleskins and wax legging combo is pretty good protection for the knees Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
Wax leggings and old wax jacket, you need them for hedges, have a good paire of goretex boots, but finding wellies is the norm, as this year the fields are waterlogged. Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
Dunlop puroport wellies, Flexothane bib and brace, and gortex camo army jacket. (usually only open ground, no thorns!) Underneath anything warm and comfortable, but really like a hoodie for keeping the wind of my lugs and neck sometimes. Quote Link to post
