Falklands

Recommended Posts

400 miles isn't that close. With that rational then The faroe Islands should be ours...hell why not even Iceland as well?

  .. well thats one way to look at it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they are however 250 miles from, the argies not 400,,,, but how far are they from us???

Looks like 400 on google map.

The thing is no one wanted it when every country in the world was colonising and expanding, we settled people and built an infrastructure. Now oil has been found the Argies fancy a piece of the pie again.

Yep it's miles away from the UK but was colonized when we were a huge sea faring nation.

We cant even keep Britain British, let alone the Falklands !

lets not forget 30 years ago 200 + british soldiers lost there lives + argintine men , lets hope for a peacefull out come to this situation

it was on the news earlier, a load of argentine protesters hurling missiles at the british embassy, walking round looking tough if it does kick off,we wont see the fecking likes o them for dust

look i agree with you all, 100% its ours

but evrybody is coming up with the standard answers,, apart from the question,, if the boot was on the other foot, and they had one of our local isands???

The Falklands aren't even in Argentinian territorial waters Tomo. Argentina has never had any claim to the islands, or even historical links. They have never owned them. Their only claim to them is that they are the nearest country to them.

I wouldn't worry about any Argy intentions towards the islands though, even though we are stretched to the max. We still have the worlds second most powerful blue water navy, & there is a full squadron of Eurofighters, 1000 troops & at least one of these brand spanking new babies stationed there:

..plus we now have some of the worlds most advanced subs capable of deploying special forces any where they want on the prowl...

Yep they have to pass through international waters to get to the Falkland Islands.

I'd be quite interested to see what kind of mess a couple of Apache helicopters makes of their ground forces and Amour.

They'd have a job getting their troops and armour to the islands seeing as they scrapped the only troop carrier they ever had a few years back.

People shouldn't underestimate our own armed forces. We're drastically cutting numbers but at the same time we've got more firepower & more advanced weaponry at our disposal now than we've ever had..

..a few aircraft carriers wouldn't go amiss though, going to be a long wait for the QE class carriers and even longer for the JSF's to fly from them..:laugh:

I think we should sell it to the highest bidder along with gibralter. Not disrespecting those who fought for it but I can't see the point in retaining it.

we will retain it there is to much oil down there in the s atlantic to give it up ;)

the islanders wish is to remain being a part of britain, and if the argies try and stop that, then we should kick their arses again  some idiots on the news are saying that a war would, in the future stop us trading with argentina :icon_eek: i for one can live without fray bentos

I fought there before and would do so again if young enough, the islanders are more British and patriotic than all the so called migrants now living in this country and how much do they cost us all. If we weren't paying for half of Europe to live here we may still have the armed forces to do something if the argies ever fancied their chances.

They can't kick off again..they're too skint. Their economy is f****d!!! they want because of the billions of barrels of oil surrounding it.

I've served in the Falklands in 1992 and its a gorgeous place apart from no rabbits, and the women go from 13 to 50 years of age....none in between. too much inbreeding for my liking.
