Lurcher eating habits

Anyone have any tips on getting a fussy lurcher to eat well?

She loves tinned food but does really badly on it- and I hate giving her tins!

She hates dried food

We give her mainly RMB diet which suits her when she eats enough. Somedays she likes certain things and sometimes she doesnt. She loves offal but is it a bit rich to give her too much? I think so.

She seems to prefer eating when my husband comes home

We have a plentiful supply of good meat as we are butchers- just got a fussy dog!

Don't treat it like a child put food down for five minutes then remove it if the dog hasn't eaten it all till the next day the dog will soon learn to eat whats put in front off it

i agree, just take away its lfood for a bit then put it back down, and when its hungry it will demolish the lot

as above, if its hungry it will eat, even if its a nervy dog hunger overcomes fear, a hungry dog will eat anything before it will eat its feet try minced chicken and a handfull of biscuit

Soak the biscuits in a broth from the boiled meat and had the meat to it simples :-)

If the dog is picky or fussy even when fed on raw food, are you sure you are not just trying to feed too much? Dogs need far less than you might think. Put up a photo of the dog: I know that it is difficult to get an exact view from a photo, but it gives an idea all the same.

 

Is the dog nervy in general? How many times a day are you trying to feed it? Is it your husband's dog? A few more details on the dog in general might be helpful: breeding, age, general temperament etc.

 

Are you stressing about it not eating enough? Dogs pick up on things and some try to push your buttons, or get worried if the owner is stressed out. Are you fussing too much?

 

Some things to try:

 

Feed late on in the evening without feeding anything at all during the day.

 

Feed the dog in a kennel or quiet place where no one is watching and it is completely undisturbed. Leave food there for 15 minutes and if it hasn't eaten, then pick up food and don't feed again until the same time next evening.

A mate of mine once bought a staffie pup that was feed on cooked chicken breast and basicly human food and it was not interested in dog food in any shape or form what he did as has been said before was put its dinner down to it for 15 mins and then remove whats not eaten and do the same next day it will eat eventualy i think it took 3 or 4 days but hunger will take over eventualy

I have always found, dogs who are fussy eaters are always fed too much. A hungry dog never refuses food. And dogs should be hungry at meal times.

Put boiling water over the dried food and a springless of gravy. Mates dog was the same mate don't let it get fussy..

my doberman was like that i tried just leavin it down uintill he ate it but that did not work and i was concerned about him not eatin so i mixed tinned food with dry biscuits and day by day i decresed the tinned food so it whent all to dry after a week and naw he eats biscuits fine,
