paulus 26
buy a pup of the breeding you require, land, quarry, etc will dictate this along with personel prefference, see the parents and better still see them work prior to purchase. put the time in and hopefully with a splash of luck you will have what you want. DogFox123 1,379
If one person was breeding the best dogs why would anyone buy a dog of anyone else? One persons diamond is another mans piece of garbage Quote Link to post
Acuspell 329
still got lurchers of old the old colie line there very good dogs and up to date not saw any like them of that type,of lurcher got some [bANNED TEXT] good pups bred some [bANNED TEXT] good dogs ,but there will be others about simliar i hope , as good lurchers are getting thinner on the ground Because jack-the-lads try breeding spurious crosses with no idea of genetics and in many other cases little knowledge of what their dog's make up actually is. Then there are the "mistake" matings, where due to lack of proper control through the season a lurcher bitch gets mated by the lab or alsatian or some other street cur and they try to pass the litter off as lurchers bred for a particular purpose, when in fact it was just bad stock management that led to the litter in the first place and now they have to sell them. The Act has also, without a doubt, reduced the number of genuine lurchers bred out there. A few are keeping their heads below the parapet and continuing, always with the risk of a visit like one or two of the ones we can read about on here. My view is that most of the good lurchers bred now are created quietly and homed often long before the litter is born. I did the same and all but 2 were spoken for. I am not a breeder, I bred to give myself a replacement for when Fly is getting too old. Many others are the same, and these are the better dogs around. Breeders have an agenda. They do it to make money, so they need a reputation. Those who breed for their own pup and find homes for the remainder of the litter don't do it for money, or to make a name for themselves, just to keep their line going. It wasn't easy findinng a suitable sire for our pups and the 2 year search was worth it in the end. Edited January 21, 2012 by Acuspell Quote Link to post

2.8 guy 403
VERY interesting as i thought thoe no definate dog breeders of old, i know alot of the keen dog men of old that started up with gun dogs when the act came in shame really. i understand what people are saying about horses for courses but im talking about the all round lurcher that would run anything anywere a pot filler these dogs do exsist. to be honest i would have thought somone would have mentioned the tumbler crosses ive seen advertised. when james was breeding it wasnt just buy a pup you had to book one out of his next litter have a bit of a interveiw if you will.but if you stud round a lurcher ring his name was heard, whos on everyones lips now. lets put it this way whos heard of victor ...but whos ever owned one of his dogs, reputation you carnt buy it but at one time you could have bought one of his dogs and judged it for yourself. or do you think poeple carnt afford to do this now becuase of the thieving of dogs wich seems to becoming more common or is it the bill thats killed this off Quote Link to post
