Best time to get ferret

Recommended Posts

Hi

When would be the best time to get ferrets (if there is any) ?

Would full grown ferrets or kitts be best to a new ferret handler ?

I have seen an ad for 2 full grown jills and a hutch for sale and was jsut wondering if i should get it.

Or should i wait till the start of the rabbiting season

Thanks

Dan

Personally i would go for an adult as a first ferret, kits are lovely but to a novice could proove a handfull, why not seek out a rescue place in your area & go along & i am sure they will have a ferret that will be just right for you & your needs. :D

One bit of advice i will give you is if you intend to work the ferret some rescues wont re home to anyone who works, not all rescues , just some :hmm:

If you put the area your from on this thread i will try & find a rescue in your area, assuming your ok with that route :)

I thought about the rescue route, and i thought it too intrusive, as they vet you and not likely to grant you a ferret if going to be used for working.

Im in Bridgend, S Wales

I got 2 jills today, boy are they crazy. If they are crazy at one yr old, god help you when they are kits.

Good fun tho, both fed n watered tonight and were both in the farting sack by 9pm, kipping like a good un.

Went to pets at home to get a water bottle for them and while looking the dog food section, i saw minced chicken and liver, frozen dog food in a 10cm square block. Any body fed their ferrets this stuff, its ok isnt it.

i now the meat that your on about i used to feed it to me dogs ,100% pure meat you cant go wrong :victory:

fur and feathers are the best thing you can feed them , you can feed them some dry ferret food but meat is the best ;)

tbh mate ide say give it a moth ore two and get a coupe of kitts..thats [bANNED TEXT] i did and bye october they will be ready for work.that way they grow up trusting you and if you handle them every day they wont be a prob/handfull theres nothing worse than a ferret thats hand shy when you want to get it out of a burrow and the fecker runs away because it dosnt realy knoe you.....all my ferts bar 1 ive had from kitts and i feel its the best way

My two arent too bad, both yr old and ive had them for 2 days so far.

that minced meet from pets at home is shit - fed it to the dog instead, i bought some chicken wings from morrisons and went to my local butchers and got a bag of scrap meet.

Bathed them today in some mildly warm water and tea trea shampoo, first fert didnt like it, but the second kinda enjoyed herself, she stayed in the bowl for a while.

Although my two are a yr old and not used to me yet, im sure they will, they get handled everyday, and soon to be walked (they need the exercise) on a lead.

I'm happy with them at the mo, not too much of a handful, as kits should be.
