bsa lightning barrel help!

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a BSA Lightning as my first gun, second hand from a guy on here. (no names)

I thought I just had to zero the scope as it was shooting high but then noticed the scope was bent. so now, a new scope and mounts later, i still have the same problem. it is shooting up to 2ft too high at 20yds even with the elevation on the scope screwed down as far as possible and with the back mount packed.

Now I have noticed the barrel may be slightly bent, is there anything I can do about it without having to spend an arm and a leg? is it possible to have the barrel straightened and is it worth it?

cheers in advance

the gun was fine when i sold it i checked the barrel as i always do with break barrels, also because the barrel on a lightening is so short i would say that it is highly unlikely it could bend and also if you look on your previous topics you could hit a bottle top the other day and also with 22 caliblre guns the trajectory line means that the pellet goes up befor it goes down, when shooting short distance you have to aim below!

Remove the integral silencer and put a straight edge against it to see if the barrel truly is bent. Barrels often bend because the guns fired while the breech is open, causing it to snap back.

It's also possible your rail is bent, silencer is clipping or your scope is duff!

well if hes hitting bottle tops it cant be all that bad, sounds like (i dont know your experience with guns bb89) you dont know distances or trajectory= bad accuracy...someones always willing to blame the tool before themselves , including me...lol zero it at 10yards..work your way back up in 5yrds, and set them around 25 yrds..then when you shoot at closer ranges, aim low or use mildots, and get to know the gun...it could be perfect working condition...perservere with it before saying someone has done you lol

you are correct, i can hit bottle tops and have been doing that this week... with my friends webley air rifle, as i havent used mine since ordering a new scope which arrived today.

when i tried to zero the rifle after getting it i found the finger adjustable elevation wouldnt move, so i assumed it was too stiff. i took it to a gun club who zero rifles and they tried to zero it but the elevation was already adjusted all the way down, and the mounts were packed and they told me the scope is bent. hence, the new scope and today i tried new mounts, all to no avail. but now i notice just by looking at it that the barrel looks a little bent up.

there can be nothing wrong with the new scope or mounts, as we tried it with the webley mount and scopes too but still cant get it to zero on elevation. i will check the rail though, thanks phil
