Top days banter

Recommended Posts

Had a cracking days ferreting last sat hitting this farm for the last time this season we've taken a total of 57 rabbits off it in about a 300 yd sq area. Fern banks and some gorse no hedge rows which makes for a relaxed days sport.

We took two spaniels and the brother sister team of lurchers five ferrets plenty of grub and plenty of banter:) I took the camera as the light was good weather fine with our first frost.

A mix of purse and longnets we started in the wood after a mark from the dogs and had a short dig to one after one made it's escape from a missed bolt hole under the bracken which is part and course of our sport but boy did we give John a ribbing for missing it. The lurchers coursed it but the wood was thick.

We then put the spaniels through the gorse and put two rabbits to ground which were bagged later in the day. We had a few more digs than usual to be honest but at least it kept us warm. Stopped for lunch and a warmer from the hip flasks, shared some laughs and stories of past years ferreting and working dogs that have done us proud.

A good days ferreting With the lurchers picking up a scruffy old buck at the end of the day which just pit the cherry on the cake.

We were greeted by a nice sunrise
