reddawn 2,173
Had some good days on the hills with deerhounds too.... ,, THEY USED TO BE A COMP,,, DEERHOUND, V SALUKI,,, ON DAVIOT MOOR,, SPEY SIDE AREA,,,GOOD DAYS LONG GONE,, Yip, the breeds were kept apart, the champion deerhound and the champion saluki were matched together.. how did they compare in the finals?? Romany 1,065
A deerhound bitch called Coranach Luckpenny, used to wipe the floor with every saluki she ran against, But, overall, I dont think there was much in it, and the competition went quite away back..could probably find out what the totals were..the Saluki club also had a day meet on the Lammermuirs, best dogs in that era on them stages were probably Paul Sagar`s stuff, thats PS (1) as there was another from Durham I believe. But on saying this, its a deerhounds stage, they are designed to run on long heather, and their loping stride takes them across it decivingly quickly at times, deerhound agaisnt a saluki on the fens, I would be putting my money on the saluki most of the time. When Ive been involved on the moors we spent more time getting the salukis back off the moors than watching courses....by the way, we are talking proper coursing deerhounds and salukis here, not show stuff, although there were some dogs of both breeds that did well on both.. 1 Quote Link to post
