Trev Smilerface 38
Strength and honour, Had it but aint got it anymore......Was on the set of the film keeping the travellers away from Vinnie Jones and Richard Chamberlain. Saw the scene in the warehouse where Vinnie was on the back of the truck. That was filmed in the marina here in the city. Loads of peole i know over here were used as extras for the film. But when i actually saw the film i though it was a let down. There used to be a fella up Norfolk way called Ely Frankham was a fair handy fella and a traveller. Certainly not a fella to mess with by all accounts. Theres been some good bare knuckle fights and ive seen some lousy ones that aint worth watching. Wouldnt do it myself, but ive been asked if i ever fancied having a go. A fight would be sorted for me to do it. Think i'll stay away from it, my days of getting in the ring are gone, never mind no ring and no gloves for a couple of hundred quid.. 41yrs old and aint having some whipper snapper running rings around me after my 40 a day smoking habit  Edited January 18, 2012 by Trev Smilerface

Dont know if you mean the father or son but they,re both passed on......i forget the relationship now but i knew Bobby Frankham back in the ,s he was a decent pro and a nice fella.....again i cant remember the relationship but Johnny Frankham was an absolute scumbag....but again, was a decent boxer. Bobby was banned from the pro game for smacking a referee after stopping him early.
gnasher16 30,118
[i think bare knuckle fighting and travellers have been linked for many a year but it was Guy Ritchie and the film Snatch that made it "cool".......Read Bartley Gormans book a good few years ago, very interesting People have been having straighteners for years......i think the Snatch film coupled with these boys filming their punch ups have led to a lot of impressionable young lads thinking its " cool " as you say.....A bit like when Tyson came on the seen and the younguns started calling their dogs " Tyson ".........usually lads who would never dream of having a fight but like to watch others....funny enough. Bobby was banned from the pro game for smacking a referee after stopping him early. Yeah Johnny frankham was a good boxer in his time but like so many he turned to the drink. He was from round the Reading way and heard his name many times when i was living in Bracknell. And totally agree he was a scumbag. But not far from Reading near Crowthorne theres a travellers place just off the nine mile ride and some of the frankhams are there and i used to box in the boxing club across the road. Now there was a fella there called Michael Smith, a traveller he was the european boxing champion and had awsome hand speed on him. Never did find out if he went further. Theres a few of the travellers that if they stuck with the game they could be damn fine boxers, but they all seem to turn to thedrink or go down the bare knuckle road. Im waiting to see what Big Bang Willy Casey is going to do after losing his title fight......not sure if he'll carry on or not. Good friends with members of his family, but again not a family to mess with ......and even by travellers standards these are classed as "heads"..
gnasher16 30,118
Not sure who Michael Smith is/was but certainly not a European champion in the pros......thing is it takes a lot more than big balls to go anywhere in the sport plenty of these travelling lads will have a tear up fair do,s.....but that will only take you so far.....skill,talent and a big chunk of dedication come into play as soon as you leave the caravan park ......the kid Billy Joe Saunders has the right idea he got away from all that bullshit and got himself into a good little club as a youngster and did things the right way.......he,s a pleasant kid with manners and a great temperament for the game.....a credit to his family and i hope he continues to improve. Michael Smith was european schoolboys champion. I was in the same school as him in crowthorne. So its going back about 25yrs ago, but certainly had talent at that age, but never heard about him since so i take it he fell to the wayside like many of them. Willy Casey has the talent if he can keep going, he was totally outclassed in his last fight with Guillermo Rigondaux for the WBA title. I really hope he goes on with it, his fmily do too. He's not, as far as i know mixed up in some of the stuff his relatives are into. Like you say to make it anywhere in boxing you have to have the dedication and commitment to get anywhere. the_stig 6,614
Wonder if it shows the parents stood at ring side screaming at their own kids how much of a disgrace they are, how they have humiliated the whole family name and if they don't win they are in for a kicking when they get home .............. yes it does happen, not by all travellers but a fair few. same with a lot of parents i`ve seen some shocking behaviour at the side of football pitchs and boxing rings --
