TOMO 26,682
i pay £46,, i still go and do a bit,, mind you mines expencive cos i go to virgin active,, been this morning infact,,, but even in our town there are a few new ones ,, and they only charge £15 ,,, mind you mines trendy but it does have a pool, and evry class is free , The one where the girl goes is a decent gym. Thinks she pays about 25 but thats with a council discount through her work. She does alot of classes, i wouldn't be doing them it would be solely for the gym. Problem is i dont like being the new person( stupid i know) and walking into the gym and just jumping on a machine is a bit daunting. Maybe al just need to man up...... evrybody feels like that there firts time mate,,, and theres nowt i can say that will change that feeling,,,, but of course if its a decant gym with trained instructors they will put you at ease.... some of the classes are good for a bit of fitness,, things like circut type training or boxersize if they do it...... just bite the bullet and go,, after a few days you wil wonder why you worried. then its just down to weather you stick with it,, i started at 19 never stoped till about 34,,, then just stoped compleatly for 6 years didnt do a thing just eat pies

One dumbbell playing with another. You will have to do a bit of work on that left arm to get to the size of your right arm I doubt even if i trained for 3 hours everyday for the next 10 years i match the muscle mass in that forearm.............. Bosun11 537
Lab, most answers here are right IMO, don't buy a multi gym, there are few people who have the dedication to train from home, far to much day to day stuff gets in the way and if your not totally dedicated you'll find any excuse not to use it, then try to hide it under your clobber, because most of 'em in peoples homes end up as clothes horses, you'd be better off buying a new wardrobe, to keep your clothes off the floor, with the money..!! Tomo's right, you could find a local gym, one that gives free inductions and programmes but both check the small print ( for the term and get-out) and the price (Virgin fecking Active ) because most of the poncy ones are well overpriced... Your local council ones would be the best bet, they have to be both competitive, tick all the boxes of private ones in terms of facilitys (and most have bigger pools Tomo!) and lower priced. I've managed leisure facilitys now for over 20 years, there are good ones out there. These days i don't do a fraction of what i used too training wise and although I can use any of mine at any time, i'd rather just get out and run, nothing beats it for fitness, weight loss, total de-stress and it's free! Whatever you decide, the golden rules are... Fit your training into your lifestyle, don't change your life to train, you'll never keep it up if you do the latter... and start slowly, fitness is a long road.
Lab 10,979
Oh i couldn't dedicate myself too it mate. With the rearing field in the summer and the fencing throughout the rest of the year i keep a general level of fitness. Always had those few little bits i just wanted to tone up though. And now as i get older i dont want to slip into a no way back fat f****r. Said i would never do that. So its a no go to the multi gym......fine. Bite the bullet and join the same gym as her or go with one of my mates, decisions decisions.............. Cheers......

MoChara 1,632
You would defiantly be better joining a gym, my fiancee and brother both had home multi gyms, free weights and benches and used them now and again, but the dedication wasnt there really. They have both since joined gyms and go every week most days, you would get more moneys worth, plus if you get a leisure center gym membership you get free use of other facilities such as the sauna and swimming pool etc. Plus most multi gyms DO NOT sell extra weights (usually 100kg at the very most) so once you have lifted all the weight there is no going up, if you need to! And as an extra bonus to joining a gym, you get to meet more people and mingle !
Born Hunter 17,798
I personally prefer the home gym approach. With plenty of weight, a simple bench and a bit of initiative in the yard you have most of what you need. I just find it fits into my lifestyle better and I rarely have a problem with motivation, changing my routine regularly though is always a ball ache, something which I think would be easier with a gym partner. My situation has'nt been perfect since finishing Uni but I'm making gains again, steadily. I've just started climbing with a few mates from work and it's really added a new angle to my training that i don't think I'll drop now.
Millet 4,497
Lab you still get a bench for the free weight's just without all the pullies and wire's and they dont take much space up either when you have finished sweating your man boob's of..you can push it to one side,,
gnasher16 30,437
Dont get a multigym mate they dont allow natural movement and you,ll soon outgrow it strength wise.If you really must train alone then a smiths machine would be a better bet than a multigym or a cage..............training at home is hard work that takes real dedication to stay motivated and work with full intensity......if you join a good gym nobody will judge you....you,ll be given good advice and learn more just from watching others........your enthusiasm and intensity level will stay much higher in a gym but you must have the correct mindset and not get into the macho bullshit that some gyms seem to carry, which is sometimes hard to do when its all new...........................that said,if you can drive home you havent trained hard enough
