blan89 159
I'd just get a decent bench some mats, bar and pair of dumbells. can't be much difference in price if you shop around
Lab 10,979
All good advice folks thanks. I think the only way is to bite the bullet and hit the gym and see what i think.....
trappa 518
A pair of dumbells with different weights is as good as anything. Add press ups and you can just about work every body part. Even so though, a multigym in your garage or free weights wont be as effective as getting down the gym and doing it.
mick1212 389
depends on what you want out of it if your overweight you need to get the fat off before weight training really you need to do alot of cardio and change of diet to lose weight you need to take your hear rate up and down for fat burning jog 100 yards and sprint 100 yards get the fat off first and then youll build muscle easier
mackay 3,400
Done both, and I agree the gym is the better option for serious training, it's too easy to cop out with a multigym whereas something as simple as arranging a session with a training partner and not wanting to let them down can be all the motivation needed to get you to the gym and once there you thoroughly enjoy it.. That said, if you don't have a lot of time, you're not a diehard trainer and you want to tone up at your leisure then a multi gym might suit, although they don't work for most and didn't for me, it's a glorified coat stand in the garage and the only time I pay it any heed is when I fall over it.. Gitano 17
There are so many different ways of getting in good shape and, although I like weights myself, I find that mixing up different types of training is what keeps most people on the straight and narrow. With this in mind I always recommend one book for people wanting to get in shape(actually his other books are just as good, but this one concentrates on having minimal specialised equipment): http://www.rosstrain...vergymless.html His video shows you that he walks the walk himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t-ini-Ru4w&feature=player_embedded Love his use of furniture sliders for working out with ETA He has a few tutorials showing how to make loads of fitness equipment for eff-all. Just a thought for saving some dosh Edited January 18, 2012 by Gitano

northern lad 2,292
depends what you want mate size or fitness, did bodybuilding for years got sick of all the steroid warriors, got into mixed martial arts / boxing felt much better and enjoyed training again.tbh if you want size dont waste your cash on a multi gym,get a cheap set of 2nd hand weights and add more plates as your strength increases for fitness /weight loss ,the same but less weight more reps plus skipping.be careful to warm up first ive torn a few muscles over the years and even now flair up occasionally, must admit my joints are pretty fecked now through it all good luck dave
Bootsha 1,306
Ive got a Golds Promax multigym here for sale £150 as new condition. Collection only though. In my book, if you used the energy you'r likey to use on one of those in a work scenario, you'd earn lots of money, so its a question of big muscles or cash in hand?? No choice.lol
