Ratreeper 441
Is anyone else trully sick of hearing this bollocks. People who have a baby, so decide to get rid of the dogs they got knowing full bloody well they wanted kids one day. It just seems these people should never own a dog, or learn how to manage children and dogs at the same time (which is the minimum requirement to having either). But they seem to think it is acceptable to get a puppy in place of a baby knowing damn well dogs live 10-15 years, then using the new baby line. If you are a good dog owner and parent, why should there be a problem? If there is any doubt, don't get a dog it is really bloody obvious. If your dog gets sick of you letting your snotty toddlers climb all over it and warns them, that is your fault for failing as both owner and parent yet it is always the dog to blame, like the other thread everyone bleeting on about getting it PTS. No offense to the thread maker this is in no way aimed at you, as I have no idea what the facts are and the situation is different, I am talking about people who get a puppy as a 'practice baby'. rant over...

scothunter 12,609
its a ssd fact that dogs are kicked from pillar to post when circumstances change. sometimes there is a gen reason, but in most cases its easier to get shot of the dog. it would need to be a drastic change in my life for me to consider getting rid. like you said they live for a good few years all going my last lurcher lived till she was 16 sadly the spirit was there, but the body was not. i agree its a commitment and that should be taken into consideration before taking a dog on. its prob thier wif3s and gfs giving them earache about dogs when wee baby arrives on the scene lol some men cave into them for an easy life.

paulus 26
the sad fact is some people change dogs more often than their socks i think if were honest we all know someone like that, WHY DO THEY DO IT??? i know lads who carnt keep a dog 2 minutes and theyve had some very good dogs and just got shot usually for free or very little money and always on the downward spirel of ownership, then they go out and spend £100`s on someone elses cast off`s that are doomed to the same fate as the previous dogs. They just dont seem to grasp that breeding only gets you half way the rest is down to effort and a great deal of time along with a certain amount of luck. im not sure if there just mentally challanged or just plain thick.

Totally agree with you. This really annoys and upsets me too. It is the failure of the owner/ parent to manage the situation....we are the adults, the responsible ones, and we should ensure the environment is safe and happy for all concerned. We've owned many dogs over the years and have never passed them on or pts because the situation became difficult. They stay with us until they die.I know there are some genuine cases, but it seems to me that we've become a very 'throw away' society as far as animals are concerned....too often on THL we hear "get rid" or "pts". I really pity some poor dogs.

WILF 47,482
I pretty much agree about the fact that folk should think on how they are going to manage dogs and kids, but the bottom line is, between dogs and kids.....kids win! What I cant get my head round is all this "I have to put it up for sale"?...........no you dont, you have to re-home it.....totally different! What happens if no one buys it?.......does it stay or what? Thats what I find utter nonsense!
