paulus 26
you`l probably have to learn to live with it, some dogs just wont retrieve, as for the aggresion its guarding its catch that does need nipping in the bud mate. is it ok when you pickup what its caught? paulus 26
yes mate fine when i pick it up just if other dog goes to it what can i do to stop the gaurding pal again depends a lot on the temprement of the dog, what would happen if you walked in with another dog on a slip would he still guard? Casso 1,261
do you have a command for the retrieve,? when your playing with a toy or ball with the mutt try using a command with two items, what i find is some mutts prefare one item more than the other and may not retrieve a certain item all the way back to you, i use "bring it" to make him retrieve an item to get to play with another, or drop an item and walk on with the dog on the lead stopping some distance away, turn around and look at him giving him the command bring it, pointing towards the item, when he gets the command into his head it can be used else where, the trick is to make him believe that retrieving the item is to his advantage like getting to chase another item or eventually getting to chase another bunny, you will get a lot of mexican standoffs where at the start where he dont have a fing clue what you want from him but have patience it will take time til he twigs what the words mean,, another point is make yourself more approachable to him, make yourself fun to be around, get him jumping up round you for you to throw something, bring some feeding out on your walks and feed him out of your hand, play tug and let him win bringing the item back to you to play again giving a bring it command nothing will happen overnight, it will take time, the real deal out lamping will take longest,it would be better out on your own for that, he will catch and stand but if you have put a history in his head that the only way he gets to chase something again is to bring something back it should improve in time best of luck

Hidden Hunter 1
Or have you tried a rabbit skin dummy ?
TonyOrmy 128
try him on his own mate / as you say he is fine with you taking his catch of him but anythink else its not having it ,so if you think about it he wont bring it back were he thinks there is a chance the other dog will rob his catch,so its safer bet for you to go to him ,take away his competion as in other dogs and work from there , i think you will see a diffrence atb mate and happy hunting

buster gonads 862
I,ve not worked running dogs for some years now but have done my fair share in my day, anyhow what i used to do with mine was first get them to hold somthing in thier mouth,s while sat, useing the word HOLD all the time while stroking them, then i,d walk them while holding it, to the shops or were ever, ALWAYS praiseing them when i took it off them, i used to make them carry a egg there and the newspaper back, after a while they would retreve Hares to hand no matter how knackerd they were, give it a try, worked well for me, ATB.
