Whippet or lurcher

I heard today that whippets don't have as much go as a lurcher what dye all think of this

To be honest it's hard to beat a well bred, purpose bred lurcher for most hunting tasks.

 

I think with whippets, you just either have a thing for them or you don't.

 

I wouldnt swop mine for the world, but i would give him a thicker jacket if i could.

 

He has higher prey drive than any dog i have met.

for a what from a dog it would have 2 be a lurcher but saying that they is whippets out their that can be just as pleasing

I like whippet's and like already said if you get the right one they can be handy little dog's..but give me a lurcher X all day long..

There is a lot of variation in whippets as well, i've seen plenty of 18 " very light weight ones, and then mine is pretty much 22" and most of 20 kg.

i had a none ped whippet years ago , small little bitch 20in 20lb . She was great on rabbit day+night, but i think if you get a well bred lurcher that can handle all quarry pre ban , you got a better type hunting dog .!

Its what you want, both types have plenty of drive n to say whippets dont is far from correct. Mine unbelievable keen!

thanks im getting either whippet or lurcher but keeping it in my friends as he already has kennels so the dog has to be something around the height of a whippet what cross would be best for me (it will be my first dog)

depends what you want it for. I've seen whippets with less prey drive than a lurcher that is stood next to it, but i've also seen the other way round as well. Breeding, lineage and how a dog is brought on is a massive part on how a dog (either whippet or lurcher) turns outs and becoming a capable hunting dog. This running dog game is a lottery.....some do it, some don't!!! even if in the same litter, never mind the breeding.

i want the dog for mainly rabbits but again it cant be a very big dog
