mystiko 17
Considering it was amateur filming I thought the lad done a remarkable job...especially with the zooming in from some distance.....hence why some was missed...it wasn't like wildlife on one, that's filmed over a long period then edited .....and I think the two main ones on film were bitches ,not dogs...and the foxes didn't get away.Do you keep bull crosses by any chance...or something else? All this drivvle about not being Spot on Dai some days it would be easier looking for gold! Its a simple fact with out extreme nose and stamina,no find,no kill !! Those dogs do very well hunting them foxes on that vast open ground but on the other hand think they would fail to catch on smaller fields where the foxes would have a chance of getting away. Even doubled up they struggle to take the opportunity quick enough, any fox i my opinion would lap up that advantage and be gone. Good at what they do on that ground but definatly not fox dogs. i have never killd a fox so i wouldnt no but you say not fox dogs butt when i watched this film they killd the foxs over and over butt isn't a fox dog a dog what kills fox's ? just theas dogs have diferent tekneaks of doing so Yeah i suppose so if you look at it like that. I personally like a dog to be able to catch its quarry solo though, two dogs on any quarry narrows the the chance of it getting away ten fold. Plenty of dogs out there will catch a fox if it has the back up of another dog but put them same dogs on there own and a huge amount will not get the job done. All im saying is that those two dogs make the catching side look hard work. Iv only seen the first dvd maybe the others show just the one dog taking them on its own time after time? single handed....if you actually watch the dvds you will see some taken single handed. It seems some folk are missing the point....it is about watching your dogs work and enjoying the day out.I am sure there is a few lads out on the fells...maybe one dog belongs to one lad and one to another. It is not a competition , it's a fieldsport!!! Its not drivle mate and yes i agree its all about the day out and watching the dogs hunt but some people like myself like lurchers to be a little different than your kind. Yeah you do see the one dog a couple of times on his own with his quarry but you also see that same dog running the fox only a foot in front, running it round and round in circles a numbers of times and then the filming stops and goes to another scene before its caught!! Maybe the battery on the camera dies at that point each time.. A good watch if thats your thing , all the best. chris Quote Link to post
HBG 350
Dogs do there job and do it well. They dont need to grab a fox any were they have all the time in the world,There not about to slip in a hedge. they might slip into a hole though,i think there fantastic dogs at what they do and am not knocking them at all but i wonder how many he's missed with them slipping into a hole when maybe a more committed dog would of caught them?as i say a great film to watch and i enjoyed watching the pup from starting out to being the finished article on the last dvd,he would be a good lad to follow if ya were into ya terriers i would think Quote Link to post
Good Man 196
I seen the first dvd and they do a good job in that type of country. I also think if anyone ran a very high prey driven commited cross like a bull cross, they wont last long in that type of country! They would soon get killed or very badly injured! The dogs shown in the dvd, were spot on. Just my opinion. Quote Link to post
