Culling An Unwanted Litter

Alright; Probably one of the most unsavoury of subjects to raise. But a Thread started by Chris Hickling (Here) has brought it, inadvertantly, to light. It's also a matter playing on my mind of late. My JR bitch is pretty much unstoppable in her perambulations and my nearest neighbour keeps some useless little 'Dougal' type thing which also has a penchant for straying.

Bottom line is; If I miss her signs of throwing heat and don't cage her securely from the onset? I'll be culling the inevitable result.

Nothing unthinkable about that. Arsepca droids get to gut stab a full litter of puppies as part of their indoctrination. They do it to show a bit of class. I'll only be doing it if I f*ck up incredibly badly. But shit can and does happen. So now the 'What If?' question:

What's the score, please? If ye cull at birth? Wouldn't it leave the bitch full of milk and liable to Mastitis? That's my concern. Anybody know?

Thanks. And don't worry; I expect my own Dogs will soon let me know when she starts. I have a big cage right here. She'll be going no where but into that and that down in my 'stock sheds! She loves my 'stock and they can keep her company while she passes ;) Just in case .....

:good: Cheers for that, lads.

Like I say; 'Over my dead body' job. I also have two male's here to alert me the moment she starts becoming interesting. I've also taken to long chaining them all now anyway, due to the neighbouring 'stock being back on the fields. It's just that I well know how unimaginably determined a heating bitch can be. I know that, for all my vigilance and cunning, the little shit could possibly slip past me.

That ever happens, down the years, I'll keep a couple back then. Then foist one off on the c*** up the way who lets his thing roam at will! A bitch, naturally!

Heard about that jab, Rob. Vet said, at the time, though that it can wreck their bod's to the extent that they become sterile? That was five years back. Don't know if things have changed since? And the vet surely must've meant it? I mean; Who, in that position, would point to keeping an unwanted litter of pups and lie through their teeth to defend such an option? (Well ..... Yeah ... I know; Then they'd sell ye f*ckin Science Diet to ensure a nice earner when the pups go down with cancer some years down the line!)

Anyway; 99.9% hypothetical question. But good, I feel, for me and anyone else reading this to know the answers ;)

Thanks :)

if she does have a litter ditch then the healthyest and most natural option is to leave one pup on the bitch ... her milk production will slow over a 2 week period and she will only produce enough to feed one pup thus stopping her getting mastitis .... also good for her mental health mate ..........
