Richie10 345
no. Only need a sgc if you want your own gun. Suggest you do some reading. Quote Link to post

Simonrees 45
I think you may have misunderstood Richies comment You cannot own or keep a shotgun without an SGC. You can shoot at most private clay events, by borrowing a gun though. Quote Link to post
jimbo999123 0
hi nightcrawler generally you can go and shoot some clays at most grounds without a sgc but usually it involves either having a lesson or someone to go round with you i found before i got my sgc unless i was with a friend with a sgc i would have to buy a lesson and that ends up very expensive about £60 per hour where i am. if you know anyone with a sgc and a gun its generally fine for them to take you round a clayground Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Clay shoots use what is called a "Section 11 Exemption" It is a section under the Firearm(s) Acts that allows those without a certificate to borrow a club gun whilst on the shooting ground so they can have a go. Most clay shoots will have these and for shows almost certainly as they want people to just come and have a go. Quote Link to post
jackinbox99 41
As others have said you dont need an SGC in order to go shooting clays, either at a clay ground, at a show or even in a mates field. As long as there is someone with an SGC with you then you are fine. If you have no mates with a shotgun, then most clay grounds will happily let you borrow one to shoot clays with on their ground, but obviously they wont let you wander about unsupervised, so will either tag along with you to make sure you are safe, or make you charge for a lesson. Best way is to go along with a mate. Im always taking my mates along to have a go at the clays and they love it! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Jack, wrong, and dangerously so. There is no "estate condition" for shotguns. You can use a borrowed shot gun at a police approved clay ground, and you can use a shotgun under supervision of the owner/occupier of private land. There's an argument about what actually counts as an occupier, but you can't shoot with just anyone. What the OP was asking is covered by sec 11 exemptions, but NOT shooting on land that isn't police approved. Quote Link to post
