Aaron_butcher 17
its no harder work keeping them fit, the saluki goes on a walk everyday the other dog will come along with him. same story with working, ill bring both dogs and recruit a mate to slip the other dog. the saluki does fine on the lamp but if its small flat fields he misses alot more than he catches, be nice to have a smaller dog thats quicker off the mark Quote Link to post
tia.kins 56
I'd buy a decent lamp dog in. Plenty of pups out there. You putting a big coursing dog that can't handle small fields over a smaller speed machine. The pups could throw a multitude of ways and you pick te wrong pup etc. If your not happy with te saluki grey on the lamp, don't use it. Personally, I find lamping rabbits suits a solid robust dog that can take the knocks of hitting cover and lots of fast twist and turns. Plenty of dogs being bred for this type of work, why add more pups to the Lurcher pool? When you have your own doubts. Much easier to buy in a well bred pup at 8 weeks and rear it proper, without the burden and cost of having your own litter and finding homes etc However, as ever, the choice is yours. Hope it works out Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
Mate I have a prtty similar cross my self but the sire was a dhxgyxsal and dam was whipxbed very good for the permission I have they are not the quickest off the Mark and there not speed demons like a whippet but they can shift and run all nightI can have good nights lamping or a walk in the daytime on big eared rabbits there not what I'd call a great bushing dog though skin is not as tuff as it looks there retrieving is good but prey drive can be abit too much some times as soon as they see some thing moving they can have that saluki trait of not giving a f**k what u say but all and all great dogs Iam happy but as some one did say earlier u would want too try and pick the smallest one as I had 2 from the same litter dog made 27 bitch made 24 and the bitch bye far is the better dog but the big dog can have some use on very long slips but every dog is different and my two are not the same as what u are breeding Quote Link to post
