Anyone heard the Cuckoo yet?

Recommended Posts

I heard it twice at about 09.50hrs this morning B) , ten days earlier than last year  . We have quite a few in the forest I run in and in a couple of places, you can actually watch them.

This and the sound of the Woodpeckers are two of my favourites...............Al :victory:

No Cuckoo's here just yet. I never actually bothered to make any kind of note of when they arrived last year. Tell ye what though; When they do get here, my back gate is the place to be! We have a massive tree up to the left and one way down to the right. I had Three Cuckoo's here and they were all flighting between those trees. Maybe all three were trying to claim one tree each? I don't know. But the result was that I soon enough got over the novelty of watching all three in the air at once. Then one came in low, right over my cottage. What a view I had of that bugger! :D

I'll let ye know when they get back here :)

Yeppers. Heard that a lot. I call it 'The Cuckoo Getting Goosed'. Comes out kind of like, " Cuckoo Ooh!. Sounds like they've sat on something.

First time I heard it, I felt like writing in to British Birds. But then I figured it must be a well known enough thing. Plainly, it is.

 I'll listen out for that, Juckler! Mate of mine asked me, last year, what the hell it was sounding like a baby goat or something. I figured it was just him being a c***. But then, that one massive tree which the cuck's favour is right next to his place. Maybe they've been sitting up there doing that and tormenting him?

Foewarned is forearmed. They'll be hear soon and I'll pay attention. Cheers! :good.

A first for me this year is watching stormcocks nesting on the back yard never heard it before but when ever something comes near not only have they been mobbing but one of their alarm calls is like a ducks quack used as a warning defore they attack works a treat, the squirrels respect the thrushes now just with a few warning notes.
