Cheap pcp....

Recommended Posts

I havnt had a rifle for a while now and only ever owned springers before. Im wanting another soon but with working the dog and fishing etc i wont be using it as much as i used to so as long as it shoots straight im not too bothered it just needs to be quite cheap. I like the idea of a pcp as it needs to be quiet. Iv got a stirrup pump already so i wont need to buy one a them. Anyone recommend owt that fits the bill? Cost is the issue....

Cheers. Wally

Hi pal,

The BSA Ultra and AA S200 are probably the most obvious choices and the recommendations you will get off regs, but from what I am starting to hear on the grape vine the new Webley Raider 10 at £299 brand new maybe a rifle to look at.

Thanks mate, how many shots are you getting out of a charge with the regged Ultra in .177? Wally

When in the indoor range 2 days ago check zeroing LJ's Ultra and doing a bit of scope calibration i shot 70 .177 pellets from a 230 bar fill and then checked where the pressure was at with my pump and it was at 85 bar - ish.

I started the calibration work at 5 metres from 230 bar and went back in groups and 5 metre intervals to 25 metres checking different scope mags and aim points ending up shooting the longest range last at the lowest power pressure on the Ultra but still producing a ending 11 shot group at 85 bar in a very quick time (saying that the Ultra is a single shot) so not much attention to the marksmanship principles and i managed a easy 1 holer under a 5p piece in size.

Its a very good rifle without the reg but with the reg fitted its just amazing and well underestimated. The price seems to put people off i think ( being cheap) or people who slate the MMC cocking system, which with practice can be mastered and used almost as fast as any cocking bolt.

I dont have a problem with the MMC system and find it to be a very safe system and lets be honest mate if the shot is accuarte and good you dont need another shot in under a second do you?

Here is the group I shot at 85 bar in quick time. The photo is off my phone.

I was not going to put it up on here as i always like to have video footage to back up my posts as i know that some posts that get put on here can easily be seen as different from the actual truth and slightly changed to make them sound better like someone i suspect of doing it on here from time to time (no names mentioned), but in this case i wasnt videoing so its just something people will have to believe or not.

I think if i would of taken more time and care this group would of been halfed at least.

Its between £100 and £120 depending who regs it for you mate.

Well worth the money though.

I'll be buying another one next Feb along with 2 other rifles and the new ultra will be in .22 and regged and multi shot and be made into my dedicated ratter.

I love the Ultra, as an accurate pigeon popper. The boss bought his son one, and I've been having great fun at work picking off the pigeons. It's pin point accurate, FAR more accurate than I am that's for sure! It's in .22 and is a mag version not the single shot. The cocking system takes a while to get used to, the odd empty crack or no response because you missed a part of the loading/cocking sequence out, but once you get in the swing it's fine.

I've not put any groups down with it, but at the 35 yard zero POI is repeatably within half a pellet diameter of POA, which is good enough by anyones standards!

yeah id go for the ultra too..i wouldnt bother with the webley, my misses order me one in to the shop for christmas, and we went down to see it..and i gotta be honest it wasnt the best engineering iv seen, i know looks aint everything, but when you add up 3-4 liitle things of a rifle its just not worth gettiing, and the shop owner pointed some out to me..for the ultra not being much more id say go for that..or the mighty s200

Zini what is the difference between the new Webley Raider and the new Hatsan AT44?

Although they look almost identical, on closer inspection, there are a couple of differences. First of all, the Hatsan is a side lever, not a bolt like the Webley. The magazine release is a little different also.

I have a Brummie Raider 10 in .22, and a Rapid MK2 in .22. The Webley gets used far more than the Rapid, as it seems quieter, and I have more confidence in it than the Theoben.

Don't know Mole as I've never seen or shot any of them, just heard some good accuracy results coming from the new webley on other forums. Just something for the poster to look at and think about, do a bit of research to see what others think of it and then go try one for himself.
