Getting pups and dogs jabbed up

Recommended Posts

How many of you get your pups fully jabbed and follow it up every year? Me personally like to keep on top of the dogs jabs worming ect but heard a few say they don't bother il just buy another in, but to me it's more than just buying on another it's the time and effort iv spent shaping my dig into what I want, just wonder what everyone's thoughts were?

Every year without fail they get their boosters - aint risking parvo, distemper, leptospirosis or any other of the fatal nasties out there. Call me soft, but I love my dogs too much I guess.

Couldn't live with myself if one of my pack died horribly for the sake of a few quid.

My older dogs are not done - but my younger dogs are done on the 3 year vaccine,

with lepto every year, as my youngster is always diving in ponds and wallowing in puddles,

parvo and distemper is on the rise again - so im not risking my dogs comeing down with anything.

only used to give mine their first then not bother until a mates dog contracted lepto after a days ratting, what an horrible death. i now do mine every other year without fail. the reason for every other year as opposed to every year i read an article along time ago written by a spaniel trainer/breeder instead of having all his dogs jabbed every year as a matter of course he had them all blood tested instead to find out whether they needed to have the jab or not, his findings were that every 2 to 3 years was the time when they actually needed their jabs so to air on the side of caution i jab every 2 years.

The thing about the lepto jab, as far as i am aware, it only covers several strains...........there are hundreds, so even though you immunise your dog may still contract it.

I immunise as pups and that is it.

If you are worried contact your vet for a titre (I think that is the word) test. Costs about the same as a vaccine, that way you will not be giving your dog unnecessary virus in the form of the immunisation if it does not need it. I did it several years ago and only 1 dog out of about 7 had low levels.
