If it's true that your a trained or are training to be a vet then i'de say your opinions and advice would be priceless. If i had a bitch of that age that was the last of a line or the best of an on going line then i'de take the chance. The dogs we keep are priceless and as long as there are vets to guide you and help out i personaly can't see any problem. As for the banter on here lol, i lost two years sleep when i first came on, don't take it personal or you'll go down the same path.

Anyone ever seen that harry enfield sketch "women know your place" haha

The title says first litter mate. You must be shiting me if you would concider taking a FIRST litter from an 8 year old bitch.Poor show.clachan

A vet told me that a bitch cervic starts to close up from about 4 to 5 year old if she had not been bred from before and most older bitchs have a first litter will need to be opened up to deliver pups

Thanks Buster. I appreciate that.

And I know exactly what you're saying re: breeding from an older bitch.

I just disagreed with FTB's opinion...he didn't know the bitch's age, just that she was at least 8 years old, he never mentioned her health or veterinary advice....it annoyed me that he would give such blasé advice.

As someone else said, the end result may be a C delivery....if the bitch is owned by a good and knowledgeable dog man, then that's all well and good....he'd care for her and monitor her closely. However, if the bitch is owned by an idiot, it could be a very different story. Thanks again..
