Barrie 1,325
Without a shadow of doubt the internet is one of the most powerful and widely available communication tools of our lifetime. It’s not going to go away and in my view if used wisely it can do far more good than harm. That’s why the NWTF website was set up. To me the U.K. is the home of terrierwork and it always will be. Terrierwork is more widely practiced here than anywhere else in the world, which unfortunately has also resulted in it facing a greater number of threats from the animal rights movement than in other countries. So through no fault of its own, the NWTF (supported by the C.A./B.F.S.S.) has gained more experience of defending terrierwork/working terriers than any other organisation in the world. The NWTF is a relatively small organisation in financial terms. Yet through the power of the internet and via the website, they’re able to share that experience with every other working terrier organisation across the world. The intention being, for others to be in the best possible position to defend terrierwork should the need arise (and it surely will). In the same way this forum serves a useful purpose, it’s a focal point for those with an interest in working terriers from all over the world. It provides the opportunity to share experiences, gather information, exchange ideas and to chat about the one thing many of us regard as the single most important thing in life. But as with all things in life, the most important consideration (going back to my original post) is to try to act wisely, whether out in the field, or sat at a keyboard. To me the working terrier epitomises all of the qualities which once made Britain great, ones to which any self-respecting man might aspire. Personally I’d struggle sleeping at night if I thought I’d helped contribute to their demise by my own thoughtlessness. J.M.H.O. - Barrie Edited January 10, 2012 by Barrie 8 Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
great post needed to be said, earth i agree with you some authors are by far our biggest enemy ,see post on lurchers " of dogs and deer" i mentioned this and other books ,staggering.....its actually so bad its funny, its like football hooligans trying to get the terraces back!aint gonna happen.the reason this ban was put in place was a well presented although dishonest, biased campaign.and how do we respond?by giving them more ammunition...literally if i was an anti i wouldnt waste my time searching for propaganda id just hand some of these books out ,hoodrats throwing dogs out of moving cars at foxes and publishing it ...staggering.unless this is adressed quickly the ban will not only stay in place but it will become much more stringent, the tories keep saying its not priority at the moment, but lets be realistic after all the cuts/state of the economy it wont be priority in the forseeable future.much as i hate to say it labour will get in next election.......then what.you fill in the gaps.i know this wont make me very popular, but hey its an open forum, this is my opinion 1 Quote Link to post

I think a protest for a repeal of the hunting ban is due and id be there till the end as long as people like ynu were the voice of our cause , britain is the home of the working terrier lets make it stay that way 1 Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
There was an earlier thread on this same topic raised by someone else, it was subsequently suggested that "Mods should delete this thread as it's only advertising an anti bullshit website" and this they duly did earlier today. I appreciate that the moderators do a difficult and thankless job in attempting to keep these boards clean, whilst at the same time working in the best interests of terrierwork. I also appreciate the sentiments of the person who asked that it should be removed. However, I would respectfully suggest that it was probably one of the most, if not THE most important threads on this forum and would instead ask that consideration be given to pinning this post. In my view the “Digging Out” website is something which EVERYONE who genuinely cares about terrierwork should take a long hard look at.... especially each time they think about posting on this or any other internet forum. You only have to look at this quote from their website to figure out why and from their description of the “infighting” it pretty obvious that THL is one of the forums to which they refer…. "Every day we troll through hundreds of posts on hunting forums collecting quotes for use later in our campaign against terrier work. It's quite a dispiriting experience as you feel your own IQ dropping to the level of a BNP supporter, luckily the regular bouts of infighting provide some amusement. The quote below, barbaric as it is, is fairly typical of hundreds of similar posts by those 'law-abiding' sportsmen….." Speaking as someone who was around at the time badger digging was legal and who also worked in its defence. It’s a sad fact of life, as I’m sure others here will confirm, that the only reason badger digging was outlawed was as a result of the actions of a tiny minority of idiots. These idiots by their words and actions, along with their total disregard for the law and their lack of respect for the quarry, created a very public image of badger digging and terrierwork which was nigh on impossible to defend. People need to wake up to the fact that there are people out there whose only ambition in life is to see terrierwork banned. On this website they spelled out exactly what their game plan is and they work at it 24/7. Yet we still have idiots all too willing to do their work for them and for no other reason than to “big themselves up” or to gain 5 minutes of “internet fame”. The privileges we have today have been very hard won and I cringe when I read some of the posts on these forums and can see history repeating itself !!! Bert Gripton once said to me “You can forget the antis, it’s the idiots who will finish our game for the rest of us”. Bert may not have been an educated man in academic terms, but one thing he was never short of was plain old common sense and he obviously had a lot more of that than some. J.M.H.O. -Barrie .
