bbrown 0
Hello, I've joined this forum as I'm hoping to find someone who could deal with the rats in our Winchester garden. I've done a quick web search but can't find anything. The council have been in through the summer and laid poison down but months later we still have a rat or two cruising round. As we're near to a golf course and the Downs I'm expecting to have to put up with rats sometimes but I'd rather they didn't live in our garden all year round as we're expecting our family to expand soon. Unfortunately our young labrador isn't proving terribly good at ratting so I thought I'd try and find an expert ! Any advice gratefully received, Barbara Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Do you have visible rat holes on your property or are they travelling through your garden from elsewhere ? Quote Link to post
hedz31 1,308
Get a cheap air rifle with some scope's on and take away any food source from them ie bird food, household waste etc Quote Link to post
bbrown 0
I think they've dug into the old pond (about 1.5m x 1.5m x 0.5m) which I've filled in to make a small herb bed in the garden but I have yet to put any plants in it. I closed the hole with my boot and am waiting to see if it re-opens. Other than that I've only seen them running along a boundary and up into the ivy that covers my neighbours garage wall. The poison the council put down was actually in my other neighbours garden where the three gardens intersect so I'm guessing that he found holes there. We've got nut bushes all along the back edge of the garden and it's quite woody and covered in leaves so I haven't dug around much. I'll have a closer look next time I'm home in daylight and post anything I find. Cheers Quote Link to post
bbrown 0
There shouldn't be any household waste and we don't have birdfood out but we do have apple trees, a pear tree and quite a few nut bushes so I'm guessing that if I don't pick up every last apple etc that would keep them going for a while.... I'm going to clear out all the plant pots that hold rainwater hopefully that'll help slightly and invite my Dad and his air rifle down :-) Quote Link to post
