Your dog is no different no matter what they say. What's the point of leavin' the dead coat in ? If the coat is blown it needs to come out, not be clippered. If you've got your dog out in all weathers and graftin' hard, surley it deserves the best protection. A clippered coat dosen't shed the rain, it stinks and it's harder to spot any cuts or wounds. northern lad 2,292 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 ,wouldnt reccomend clippers.my border had a superb wiry coat always hand stripped him,few years ago too busy with work to do him justice i found somebody who said they hand stripped dogs,when i picked him up shed clipped him.ever since his coat is shite soft and linty,definetly not waterproof.this was about 4-5 years ago still shite now Quote Link to post

For the best part of 30 yrs i've had borders & border x lakies and stripped them out twice, maybe three times a year, depending on the weather. In my experience brushing will not get out all of the dead coat. As i said before, once the coat is blown it needs to be pulled not clippered. Quote Link to post
lawrence 657 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Share Posted January 10, 2012 get yourself a mars stripping comb mate, no blades, just teeth which pull out dead hair, easier, quicker, produces a better coat than using clippers and at a fraction of the cost of buying a set of oster clippers, which you would need if your gonna go down that road. clachan 72 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Share Posted January 10, 2012 Once i see that the coat has started to blow i will run a coat king over to remove alot of the dead hair.I then tend to leave it a day or two and go back to it using a blunt stripping knife.The old hacksaw blade has its uses aswell.Alot can also be removed by hand.Hope this helps.clachan Quote Link to post
