I'd of thought taking them out to watch the big dogs working as soon as they have had their needles was the correct thing to do? I've been told to leave the dog in for about 12 14 months before letting it even see a rabbit?? But have been told get it straight out there by others, a lot of mixed opinions and I'm not sure what to do? Getting it out there to watch and learn from a baby is the correct way to get it keen? Correct me if I'm wrong?? Thanks

Thats called BAITING matey in the eyes of the law..you may well of said you went digging badgers with a terrier!! The LAW classes BOTH no different to the other...you may want to watch how you word th

use your head mate, there is an inbetween, get a young dog out watching an learning, but dont gee it anything too hard, i dont show mine a lamp till they about 6/7 month dependin on the dog an time of

i always take mine out as soon as they have had there first shot out of the two,

I used to leave them until at least 8 months old and then let them on to mixi rabbits but never long runs at hares. When i was younger I would take live rabbits I feretted out in to an open field and let the dog chase them. Nine times out of ten the rabbit would get away but it gave the dog a good idea of how to jink and turn with the rabbit. Many people would think this is cruel and I can't really argue with that so I don't do it anymore.

Personally I believe a dog loses confidence if let on prey too early and it continually misses them.

Greyhound men never let their pups race until at least one year old.

this topic have occured a few times, and the only thing i can say, is do it the way you want too, asking everyone on this site will just result into an argument ..or better still get a good book or two, and see what they say, theyve had dogs for years and bred there own dogs etc, im sure all the books or stuff iiv read have stated to let your dog be a pup..and let it mature..thats the way iv done it, you can only ruin a dog by rushing it? but iv never heared of ruining a dog because youve held it back?...running young dogs to early will f**k them up, and i know you havent said you have, im just saying that it does, and who am i to say that just takeing a dog out for a wander with other older dogs is bad news? ..who knows lol

Just a piece of friendly advice and not being an arse...ever heard the phrase "shooting yourself in the foot"? ...well thats a typical example of it? As for when starting a pup...well imo i always say what's the big hurry? Why send a child to do a mans job? ATB Andy.
