No they dont.

I do find that hard to believe mate.... :hmm: Be interesting to find out for certain though. I reckon there due it if they are in the forces for a certain period of time right enough, but if they do it would make even more confused of how they cant get on in live when the leave the forces?

Military resettlement packages depend on a lot of things; time served, circumstances of leaving etc. However, everyone is given a resettlement interview and told how they can claim what benefits etc. The system is not perfect and a lot depends on the person leaving as well as his chain of command. Often the post of resettlement officer is a secondary duty, and not all resettlement officers are as knowledgeable as they should be.

On the subject of soldiers on the streets, it is a complex issue and there is not an easy explination or an easy answer. There will be as many reasons for homeless ex-servicemen as there are homeless ex-servicemen. Some may struggle to adapt (not that long ago serving 22 years without a promotion was not uncommon). Some may be suffering from mental and physical conditions brought on by their service. Some may have been always heading for life on the streets, and military service may have merely delayed that by a year or two. Selection for the services is more demanding that it used to be, but there are occupations which require no qualifications.

I hope I have got my point across...

If anyone reading this is leaving the services and hasn't claimed their ELC, and doesn't have a Higher Education qualification (university etc) be aware that ELC can be used to pay for ALL tutition fees for university (eg the whole £9000/year) even if you only qualify for the level 1 ELC. This is a scheme brought in by the Labour Government in 2006, but does not seem to be well publicised. If you are thinking of going to university after leaving (or even studying for an Open University course in service) don't waste your ELC on some of the rubbish courses offered. If anyone wants any advice or assistance drop me a PM.

I came back from my

Second tour of afghan in April (only seems like yesterday). I prayed in some

Situations that if I got home to see the baby then I

Wouldn't be going back.

I signed off when I came home, didn't have any help from

Resettlement...... Resettlement officer has s board in his

Office that says 'NOTICE TO TERMINATE 44' scrawled underneath it 'LOSERS'

I struggled finding job, with a baby/house/ dogs/ ferrets/ car/ wedding

Etc I had to be wise and not think about myself. I had

No choice but to sign back on and will be going back to

Afghan next year.

Once the baby's a bit older I will have done a

Couple more years, wedding out the way and afghan then I will

Leave. 3 times is the max.

Pushing my luck now tbh.

Don't know about that money. We get feck all.

think its probebly been mentioned , ex service men on the streets its historicle , ,.i came out of the services in the late 70,s jobs were a plenty then ,but i sore many men sh..ting themselves who had done there time , 22 ,they were basicly instertusionilized , , they had no idea how the world workre d outside the barrack gates , some rushed into marriage through lonly heart agencys hoping that there partners would take the responsabilities of life , alot turned to th drink ,alot blew there gratuaty payments within a couple of years and had nothing to show for the 22 they had done .,,it will allways happen some will adapt and some wont ..its the way its allways been ,regardless of the help and advice available ,, not all will take it ...............the smart ones will !!!! ;)
