moocher 0
Zander are a species in their own right mate. Zander are here to stay now and there is no need to kill them on capture, just return as you would any coarse fish. I understand they are nice eating but have never tried one. It is usually dickheads that knock pike on the head that feel Zander deserve the same treatment. To be honest, most folk I know of that knock Pike / Zander on the head do so because they are scared to handle them and only feel safe removing hooks from a dead pike / Zander. Killing predatory fish for no reason is frowned upon in a big way by serious anglers, there is no problem removing a small one for the pot if you really are going to eat it, but throwing them up the bank for no reason is the work of a tosser in my opinion. It is an opinion shared by most serious anglers. Enjoy your zander fishing mate, take a small one for the pot if you want, put the rest back for future sport. Regards Moocher Quote Link to post

Tallyho 181
i was always lead to believe that zander was a pike x if that makes sence, and that any small ones, not sure on what size, are to be killed and any thing thats fairly big is to be left alone, not sure how true it is Quote Link to post

Guest Scuba1
good eating in zander, latin name for pike perch (stizstedion lucioperca)not sure what the latin name for the zander is. The Zander is a seperate species to pike or perch ( by the way the pikeperch is a the same fich ) The confusion comes from the lati names Where the perch is called Perca perca an the pike Esox lucio and in the zander the lucioperca is the bit where a lot of people get confused. Hope that helps. ATB Michael Quote Link to post
