mangy1983 51
Since l received my FAC nearly 2 years ago (Where has the time gone) l speak quiet often with my dad about guns and anyone else of my dads friends who'll listen and more than once its been mentioned that there could be a lot of unregistered guns on the island lying up in peoples attics unknowingly. A lot of these they reckon would have been from servicemen coming back from the war. A mate of mine was telling me that a work colleagues father had passed away and having inherited his house had been clearing the loft and come across a gun but not knowing what to do with it didn't even know what to do with it. I'm not sure what she did in the end as quiet frankly I don't know her and its none of my business. I know that a family in my own village on doing a loft renovation came across some shotguns which belonged to the current owners father but had rusted to such a state that they were unusable so just put them back up into the attic as a family heirloom. Another of my mates who owns a shotgun license and is the owners nephew told me about this but said that the guns are rusted to bits and unusable which to me is a shame. Now getting to the reason l wrote my topic last week in the pub we were talking about this and one of my mates (a joiner) told me that he had been up in another one of my mates uncles / great uncles (I forget) houses attic around 10 years ago to do some work and came across a wooden box and when opening it was a pristine rifle including ammunition. I think that this rifle was probably military rifle from the way he described it possibly a Lee Enfield as there were plenty on the island before the firearms law was introduced in the 60's and this is when my dad reckons a lot of rifles were put into storage into peoples attics. With houses being inherited from father to sons etc and kept in the family its interesting to hear stories like these but it is very rare to hear of them but l have no concrete evidence to say its true as a lot of it is hear say but if the story my mate told me in the pub is true l really wouldn't mind tracking the uncle / great uncle down and seeing this rifle if it really exists but l don't see any reason why my mate would lie about this. As an afterthought has anyone found an unregistered rifle / shotgun and managed to get it registered legally without getting any aggro with the police? cheers Callum Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Hi My dad told me of when he used to work for the council on house clearance a few years back about finding two shotguns, the council only go in when the deceased have no living relatives or something along then lines, anyway they were cleaning an upstairs bedroom in an old cottage and under the bed was two old hammer type double barrels loaded with old paper cartridges, they had to notify the old bill and they were not registered. because my dads mate held a sgc the bleeder offered to safe keep them,( he knew wat he was upto) anyway they were really old and maybe they were worth a bob or two.they are still on his ticket to this day, I'll never forgive him for not letting me look after them lol,I had my sgc at the time.he did tell me the make but I forgot,I bet his mate knee he was onto a winner, Edited January 4, 2012 by TWOTWOTHREE Quote Link to post
