ajaxinvincible 5
I know im going to get told to buy a few different boxes and find the most accurate! But what sort of bullets are you guys using lately? Subs and high velocity. Quote Link to post
lapin2008 1,587
I would stay away from HV rounds if your bothered about accuracy. I found that they opened groups up to about 1 1/2 inchs at 60 yards, also the extra power is not worth the extra noise in my opinion. In terms of subs in my CZ i found elay subs the best but also winchestersX were very good and i use these all the time now. CGIs in the CZ are difficult in the breech for what ever reason but didnt basically seem to fit properly so seemed to cause jams with carts failing to eject when the bolts pulled back, Quote Link to post
paulus 26
there all much the same as long as you hit the head or the boiler room i know use remmington mainly because there cheap £6 per 100 however i do prefer elay Quote Link to post
PLEDGEY 495
Tried other rounds but come back to 40g winchester X subs. They hit nice and hard as well. Quote Link to post

andyf 144
Hi: I usually only use Winchester Subsonic's, these are easy to get around here and have proven to be very consistant over at least 12 years of use, so in my book that's good! I have tried most of the 'others' mostly the likes of Eley and RWS, and to be honest these have also been very good, they don't shoot to the same 'zero' spot as the Win but the same could be said the other way around. The only 'duff' stuff I've encountered was CCI subsonic, thankfully I only bought a couple of hundred, all 'crack' or 'phut' never knew what next, but maybe that was just a crappy batch? Recently I was 'encouraged' to try some 'GECO' target cartridges, these are not expanding and are solid dome head bullets, also they are not Subsonic, but only 'crack' mildly through my moderator, these were brilliantly accurate, easily better than all the rest above, they are I believe German in origin (Imported via RWS?), and cheap to boot, I have two 500 bricks on order, I hope to get them soon. I only use them for plinking, but might try a Rabbit or two later? I shoot a 16" barrel Sako Finnfire Varmint and with this ammo can get 1/4" > 1/2" 5 shot groups at a lasered 100 yards, not too shabby for a sporter 22? 1 Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
Sub sonic all the way. HV gains you nothing, but loses you a lot in accuracy. It's all to do with air flow in the transonic region being unpredictable, with some bits supersonic and other bits not. A true subsonic round doesn't suffer from this and flies in air that can be considered to flow in a laminar, incompressible manner. The real high velocity stuff (pretty much all of the rifle cf rounds, and the magnum rimfires) runs in the supersonic regime, where all of the airflows are supersonic and so flow is once again stable. All the match ammo that I know of is also subsonic. The round nose "wad cutters" would knock over buggs nicely, but as they are not designed to expand, I'm not sure if they are legal for hunting.
