Swampy 147
i just got £60.00 fine and 3 points 45mph in 40mph zone. trying to get through platt bridge wigan quickly. You shouldn't have been done at all the law allows 10% + 2mph above the posted limit before you get nicked to allow for speedo error. Therefore, you can get away with 46 mph in a 40, 57 in a 50 and so on. Oh no It Does Not. It is purely discretional. Which is my gripe. The law is the law. Get stopped by a copper who doesn't like the look of you or your attitude and you're toast. Why do people have to speed anyway? Have you notice that when an accident occurs. its ALWAYS the other persons fault. Therefore when you're doing 120+ and the car in the middle lane has blow out, swerves into your lane and you can't stop.................. Tough shit mate It is your fault! Rgds Swampy Slowning. But only because I have a landy

matt_hooks 188
The Duncan. No, it doesn't! There is some mention of a discretionary allowance in ACPO guidelines, but there is nothing in settled law that says you can't be done for less. Common misconception (I used to work in road safety, with a "safer roads partnership" and traffic police, and trust me you CAN be done for exceeding the speed limit by 1mph!) If you "checked your facts" then I'd like to see chapter and verse in law!
Ratreeper 441
I hope they throw the book at you bud,it was someone that was speeding that fuccked up the last 3 months of my life! Just read what you got,it was a fuccking travesty, and I bet you learnt fucck all too! What happened to you? Was it really speeding or was it bad driving? I have learnt something, keep a better eye out for cameras. Seriously though, whether you are going 70 or 90 on a motorway it doesn't make much difference when it is a clear road. It is not as if I speed anywhere where there is a pedestrian or someone else could get hurt, if I crash and die due to my own driving then I deserve it. The worse that would have happened is they would have to close a lane to remove my mangled corpse, I can think of worse things.

The worse that would have happened is they would have to close a lane to remove my mangled corpse, I can think of worse things. When you get a close call you might think differently. I was coming home from France with two mates and my car was loaded to the hilt. It was an old BMW 520i. I was doing near 100 mph and the back tyre exploded. I cannot tell you have totally sh*t scared I was as the back end of the car slid out, I was really lucky and managed to stop it spinning out but we careered all over the road before coming to a halt. I could have been responsible for killing my freinds because we were in a rush and depriving my kids of their dad. I think there is a huge difference btween 70 and 90, at 70 you are much more likely to maintain control, you deaccelerate to a controlable speed much quicker.

sussexpoacher 45
many years ago when i was 21 i was going to work on my zxr400, overtook some traffic stuck behind a lorry then on to the A1 which had a lane coned off but no one working (as usual) I came up behind a car which moved over to the hard shoulder to let me pass, i waved a thankyou and carried on, as i pulled into work i noticed a volvo right up behind me then i saw the blue flashing lights in the grill! He had followed me for 6 miles and clocked me at 96 in the 40mph roadworks. court appearance and 8 points and £200 fine later i realised that when asked by the copper if i had learnt my lesson "yep i need a faster bike" probably wasnt the right answer! Caprelous 217
In the best spirit of panto, 'oh yes it does' Checked my facts Oh no it dosent As the Audience shouts hes behind you. The law is quite clear if your in a 30mph zone and your speed is 31 you have broke the law. the limit is that you will not be breaking or contravening the road traffic act at any speed below or up to the limit. Even if you was doing 10mph you would be compying within those tolerances etc whilst driving on a motorway where a vehicle must be capable of maintaining a min speed of 30MPH Thats why mopeds are not allowed on but some tractors and agricultural machinery are because they comply with the min speed set. Airing on a side of Caution here It is possible for a person who has numerous speeding convictions and type of speeding convictions for the chief officer of police to fail to renew or grant and recind both a shotgun certificate and firearm certificate as historical evidence is present of habitual disrespect for the law as in drink driving it is regardedin law as a criminal offence, something that was pointed out to me many years ago when i myself exceeded the speed limit and failed to put it on my F.A.C application on renewal. All Speeding offences have to be declared wether you like it or not, its up to the Chief Officer of police to consider the circumstances should he grant a Shot Gun cert or Firearm Cert so speeding please be aware of the consequences as well as those that may suffer direct injury brought about by excessive speed.
