Caught speeding at 93mph, any advice?

Recommended Posts

i just got £60.00 fine and 3 points 45mph in 40mph zone. trying to get through platt bridge wigan quickly.

You shouldn't have been done at all the law allows 10% + 2mph above the posted limit before you get nicked to allow for speedo error. Therefore, you can get away with 46 mph in a 40, 57 in a 50 and so on.

You are wrong I'm afraid!

Leave 10 mins sooner in future, never mind the law, if you'd had a blow out at that speed, you'd be f****d and your family would have had a great Christmass wouldn't they. Some of us have already had

It's about time the laws changed in this country, the 70mph motorway speed limit is pathetically slow considering the quality of modern cars. In most modern cars it's perfectly safe to be doing 90mph

I think it`s about time the emphasis was taken away from what the actuall speed was,, and start concentrating on whether the speed was suitable for the conditions,, THAT is where the danger lies, 160

I hope they throw the book at you bud,it was someone that was speeding that fuccked up the last 3 months of my life!

Just read what you got,it was a fuccking travesty, and I bet you learnt fucck all too!

Hope all is well with you Martin. Has that lad come out of his coma yet?

cheers Callum

He is concious now Mangy, and he is back at home albeit on crutches(broken arms/legs/ribs etc)and apparently no memory of the last 6 months or more, but he is alive and I hope he learned something from it even though he most probably never drive again.

What happened to you? Was it really speeding or was it bad driving?

I have learnt something, keep a better eye out for cameras. Seriously though, whether you are going 70 or 90 on a motorway it doesn't make much difference when it is a clear road. It is not as if I speed anywhere where there is a pedestrian or someone else could get hurt, if I crash and die due to my own driving then I deserve it. The worse that would have happened is they would have to close a lane to remove my mangled corpse, I can think of worse things.

Of course you don't speed anywhere else mate.....of course!

I'd rather have a country of good drivers who break the speed limit on the motorways now and again than c**ts that just cant drive or have no confidence behind the wheel....

In the best spirit of panto, 'oh yes it does' :)

Checked my facts ;)

Nope Your definately wrong.

There is the limit and that is that. If they let you off for doing 34 in a 30 Consider yourself luck or they've hit their quota for the month Still lucky.

Well, I'm, happy with my understanding of the law, the police pursuit course instructors, the law of precedent and various other law enforcement professionals all concur. The leeway granted is not in statute, but in precedent in law (which law in this country is based on - we don't have a constitution as such) and is underpinned by ACPO and speed enforcement agencies and english courts.

Didn't know the law came in verses now - thought that was the bible.

20 years of fast cars and faster bikes: still never had a speeding ticket

The legal practitioners I've dealt with over the years disagree.

10% + 2mph. Its referred to as 'leeway'.

Unless its changed in the last few years, then it is suposed to be 10% +2

but it is at the discretion of the police if they want to pull you or not.

It sounds like one or two are getting a little mixed up with what way round the tolerances need to be. A speedo should never underread the actual speed, ie if the car's actually doing 30mph the speedo must read 30mph or over (up to 10% over).

However, for practical reasons a vehicle individually constructed may have some difficulty with those precise tolerances, therefore I could understand if such a vehicle was allowed to show a maximum 1mph underread along with an overread of up to 10%. I don't know if it's right, just that it would be fair if it was.

ACPO guidance is that the level at which speeders should start to be prosecuted is at 10% + 2 mph. They also state that we can prosecute within that discretionary guideline if appropriate. I have prosecuted inside those guidelines once or twice.

My personal tolerances for speed are prosecution at 50%+ unless there are any aggravating factors. I could still fill my boots! whistle2.gif

I have never seen a sign that says 30MPH x 10%+2 anywhere has anyone else if you have post a piccy up I would be very interested.

The trouble with me when I am driving I seem to miss seeing them and sometimes dont see the repeater signs as usually i am concentrating on something else.

Very naughty of me I know thats why i realized i needed to sharpen my concentration and driving attitude up last time i got done for doing 44MPH in a 40 zone and took a speed awareness course paid my money bit my lip and went.

I can assure you in law there is no tolerance its up to the driver to keep is speed under the speed limit.

most Police forces are aware even slight increases in speed kills it most certainly increases an injured persons chance of coming away from an accident in a body bag thats for sure.

After attending the course I quickly realized how i had slumped into a carefree attitude in respect to speed of my driving.

Since taking the course I have to say I have taken positive steps and altered my attitude and driving teq.

In all honesty I can recomend anyone to take it who have been driving for a considerable time things have changed so much and I am more than sure you would benefit from it, Your positive action in respect to reduction in speed may save someones life and it may save yours or a loved one.

Just out of interest.

How many blokes do you know who'll admit to being a Bad driver?

How many blokes do you know will admit to speeding?

So of the 100% who admitted speeding canyou guarentee they're good drivers?

I'm not having a pop I'm just saying that nearly everyone "thinks" they're the best driver on the road.

Obviously thats not possible!...................

I see what your saying but it does come down to knowing what your doing and not the actual speed you are going at. If you know your cars limits, allow for driving conditions like wet or icy weather you can go as fast as you like. Infact i've often wanted to be in the traffic police to get most of the idiots i see driving around......for instance, If you drive at 40 on a 60 i'd ban you..........if you drive on the outside lane of the motorway at 50 oblivious to vehicles i'd ban you..........if you wank the wheel round and theres not a driving instructor sitting beside you i'd ban you...........if you cant reverse by looking in your mirrors i'd ban you........if you never get out of third i'd ban you........and so on...... :D
