Born Hunter 17,832
It's about time the laws changed in this country, the 70mph motorway speed limit is pathetically slow considering the quality of modern cars. In most modern cars it's perfectly safe to be doing 90mph providing you increase your stopping distance accordingly. I agree to a certain extent, but the trouble will be that some drivers will then start doing 120 in a 90 limit, instead of 100 in a 70. I personally reckon it should be upped to , but increase the fines. I too have lost a family member from some t**t speeding. Personally I would like to see the speed limit rise to 90mph in fast lanes on the motorway, 80mph in all others and dual carriageways. Also I think harder punishments for those caught breaking these increased speed limits. JMO

Rabbit Hunter 6,613
I got caught doing 61 in a 50 on the M1 and got £60 fine and 3 points, I could have attended a driving course and that would have been that, but it meant driving all the way down to Nottingham as that's where the 'crime' took place. ps They are c**ts. Mrquinn 106
I got a great New Year’s present waiting for me when I got back after Xmas, a letter saying I was clocked at 93mph on Xmas Eve and I should expect another letter letting me know if I need to attend court. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what I could expect? I have a clean license (at the moment) so hopefully that means it will be more lenient, but is it possible to get a ban for doing less than 100mph? Or is there anything I can do to try and get the lowest fine, because I really can’t risk a big fine or a ban I would be homeless and generally f****d. It was a camera btw I think if I was pulled over on Xmas eve, being the only car on a 4-lane motorway at night I would have been let off! Thanks phone nick freeman
unlacedgecko 1,467
My advice would be to get some legal advice. Nick Freeman is the lawyer known for getting celebrities off speeding wraps. Most solicitors will give you 30mins free advice. Don't just take it. Appeal, ask to see when the camera was last calibrated. Admit nothing, and refuse to talk to the police without a solicitor present. Good luck.
Nik_B 3,790
Leave 10 mins sooner in future, never mind the law, if you'd had a blow out at that speed, you'd be f****d and your family would have had a great Christmass wouldn't they. Some of us have already had to bare the consequences of similar drivers in the past. Sermon Over. Happy new year B I've had a blow out in a BMW 520 at similar speeds and let me confirm that seriously puts the willies up you!! That was when I was much younger and I have never driven like a twat since, in fact I even drove a VW Beetle for many years and that makes silly driving quite impossible...it couldn't have pulled a soapy stick out of a dogs arse. OP you'll get 3 points for speeding I imagine. 30 mph over the speed limit and you get banned.
Rake aboot 4,936
I think it`s about time the emphasis was taken away from what the actuall speed was,, and start concentrating on whether the speed was suitable for the conditions,, THAT is where the danger lies, 160 mph is safe enough in the right conditions, but then 30 round a wet roundabout outside a school is not !!,, Speed does not kill,, driving too fast for the conditions and situation does. Here we have a bloke on an empty Mway ffs,, he could have been safe at well over 100mph,, unless it was a whiteout blizzrd,, in which case much less could have still been too fast

I see your point, but the problem is that as well as the high quality up-to-date cars that are well maintained etc etc, there are a heck of a lot of shitboxes out there, run by young 'uns who pay so much insurance they can barely afford to put petrol in, let alone be meticulous about servicing.

In this day and age everybody who gets caught is usually by camera. It doesnt matter whether they are judge, copper, lawyer, magistrate, or somebody who has no respect for right and wrong.... they are getting done! RogerTheCat 3
About 6 years ago i got stopped on the motorway doing 95mph. The result was a summons to court but because it was a Road Traffic Offence I could plead guilty by post, which i did. By doing this I could also submit a written explanation / mitigation. I did this and wrote a brief grovelling letter. I ended up getting 5 points on my licence, a fine, a costs totalling about £480.
