Ratreeper 441
I got a great New Year’s present waiting for me when I got back after Xmas, a letter saying I was clocked at 93mph on Xmas Eve and I should expect another letter letting me know if I need to attend court. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what I could expect? I have a clean license (at the moment) so hopefully that means it will be more lenient, but is it possible to get a ban for doing less than 100mph? Or is there anything I can do to try and get the lowest fine, because I really can’t risk a big fine or a ban I would be homeless and generally f****d. It was a camera btw I think if I was pulled over on Xmas eve, being the only car on a 4-lane motorway at night I would have been let off! Thanks
PeakOil 352
http://www.pepipoo.com/ You will most likely get a reet good bumming and no reach round. Read up on the forums on the link above, you never know.
Trev Smilerface 38
Generally under 100 its not an instant ban. I think you may get a fixed penalty fine and points on license. As it stnds i beleive that the legal percentage for discretion is 7.5 % on speeding. Meaning that in a 100mph limit you could be going 107.5mph and not get fined as not all speedos are 100%. I think youll get the fixed notice....hopefully. Best advice though ...........SLOW DOWN !!! Good luck.
BLACKHEART 61
you shouldnt get banned-points and fine-go on a speeding course if they offer you-and they may be more lienient on you.atb
Bootsha 1,306
Leave 10 mins sooner in future, never mind the law, if you'd had a blow out at that speed, you'd be f****d and your family would have had a great Christmass wouldn't they. Some of us have already had to bare the consequences of similar drivers in the past. Sermon Over. Happy new year B
fenton88 6
my sister got done last year doing 38 in a 30 and they sent her on a speed awareness course and didnt get any points, although it cost her £60 smackers. All the best mate!
Born Hunter 17,775
It's about time the laws changed in this country, the 70mph motorway speed limit is pathetically slow considering the quality of modern cars. In most modern cars it's perfectly safe to be doing 90mph providing you increase your stopping distance accordingly.

All the best mate! They normally only (or used to) send you on a course if your caught in a 30 zone not on a motorway. Read up on the forums, if your caught less then 100 its not usually an automatic ban, my brother got caught doing 97 and just got a hefty fine. In court you will get a chance to plead your case etc and put forward that you will loose your job etc if banned and if they are going to ban you this can sometimes help reduce the length of ban. Get a letter from your boss saying that you will loose your job etc and need license to work which should also help. A mate of mine got caught doing about 50 in a 30 did this and they reducd the time of the ban to something small ike a couple of weeks I would expect a hefty fine. good luck

Also the police will rarely pull someone travaling at under 85 mph
Ossie n Arch 1,682
In 2001 i was caught doing 97mph on the A46. I was on the way to the Golf club and they followed me into the car park, they were in an unmarked VW Bora, i was going to see if if the 2 guys wanted to join up for a game before i realised they were the feds. Got a very stern telling off by the smallest Copper you've ever seen. Even watched the video of them following me. Yes sir, no sir, sorry sir. £30 and 3 points was the result. I think it's £60 now though. As long as you haven't got any more points on your licence it should't effect your insurance either. Although you will need to tell them. Ratreeper 441
How hefty do you think a 'hefty fine' would be? What happens if you just can't pay it? I hope I get offered the speed safety course or will just take the £60 and 3 points. I honestly don't think going over 70mph is dangerous at all, I was driving on a four empty lanes of motorway and if you are living in the real world you wouldn't be doing less than 85mph in the outside lane (you will make a queue if you do). But I don't see how this is a safety problem, I wasn't tired or even sniffed a drink so cruising at 90mph where the only person who would get hurt in a crash is myself doesn't seem like a crime. I know I am guilty and don't disagree with a speed limit, but I think so kind of perspective is needed sometimes.

In most modern cars it's perfectly safe to be doing 90mph providing you increase your stopping distance accordingly. I agree to a certain extent, but the trouble will be that some drivers will then start doing 120 in a 90 limit, instead of 100 in a 70. I personally reckon it should be upped to , but increase the fines. I too have lost a family member from some t**t speeding.
Ratreeper 441
result, I found this and hope it is true "up to 79mph you should be just told off, 79-95mph is a fixed penalty and 96mph+ is a mandatory summons to appear in court." But I suppose they might still decide to take me to court, but I doubt it. Thanks for the advice so far, I will let you know what happens.
