trigger2 3,146
i decided late on last night that i was going to take the pup out for a couple of hours as there was a decent breeze and drizzle, but it was light as there is some moon behind the clouds. i set off and decided to head for some winter wheat fields to see if i could get some decent runs, the ground was very soft in places and the rabbits were very lamp shy which mean't the pup had his work cut out. i walked the first few of the fields and what rabbits decided to squat were turning out to be hard work for the pup, almost every course you could see the pup hitting the soft spots on the fields and slowing down as he was sinking in, then his pace would quicken as he hit a dryer patch and he would have to make up lost ground on the rabbit. the soft ground didnt seem to effect the rabbits at all, they were like missiles heading straight for home and they just seemed to skip over the soft patches. after catching a few rabbits off the wheat i decided to move to some horse paddocks which were surrounded by winter wheat fields. although the ground in the horse paddocks was better running as it was firmer under foot, the heavy rain had made the ground slippery and the pup was now losing ground on the turn but managed to bag a few more. after the paddocks i went onto the surounding wheat fields to finish of the evening and completed the bag. he ended up with 23 very hard earnt rabbits which i was more than happy with considering it was on difficult ground with educated rabbits, and the fact that the pup was 10 months old christmas day. 3 Quote Link to post
