Fletcher 0
I need some advice, a local farmer has a field of peas which is being devistated by crows, he can't use a crow scarer as the field is so close to houses. He's asked me to fly my hawk over it but apart from my bird being moult I don't think it would make a difference as he would probably just get mobbed or if he did scare them off they'd be back within minutes. Any ideas I'd like to be able to help him out? Quote Link to post

waz77 15
I think Foxtrack is right it is illegal to use live decoys in this country Quote Link to post
john b 38
Use of live decoys is banned under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, and then 'allowed' under certain special circumstances Part 1, Section 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (1) Subject to the provisions of this Part, if any person— (a,b,c).... (d) uses as a decoy, for the purpose of killing or taking any wild bird, any sound recording or any live bird or other animal whatever which is tethered, or which is secured by means of braces or other similar appliances, or which is blind, maimed or injured; . . . (...) he shall be guilty of an offence. The amendement to the General Licence for pest control of birds permits the use of specific decoys birds in a larsen trap. The following conditions will apply to the use of all cage traps, including those cage traps (usually larsen traps), the dimensions of which do not satisfy the requirements of section 8(1) of the 1981 Act: (a) Restrict use of decoys to: Crow, Jackdaw, Jay, Magpie, Rook ...................
