Tom21 0
HI guys, Just wondering what you do to remove smell from your hunting gear? Managed to put my camo in the wash by mistake and now it smells like roses. This obviously isnt good. I have tried airing it out for a few days but i can still smell the blooming stuff ( alot more faint now). Quote Link to post
Baghdadnights 150
Just leave it outside in the garden for a few days especially if it's raining if not just hose them down leave to dry and hose again Atb Kev Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
My exwife did the same with mine! What I did was put it in a hot wash without any detergent, plenty of rinses and then did it again! If you want to wash your gear, then I reccomend the bog standard soap crystals, no perfume and no colour enhancers. Get them cheaply from places such as Wilkinsons, dirt cheap and last for ages. Now when I need to was my gear, I bung a cupfull into hot water in the sink pop the gear in and leave them overnight, following day rinse and dry. Totally odourless but gets shut of sweat and blood. Colour enhancers in modern detergents and softners are a bitch as they glow in the ultraviolate wavelength, animals see that a mile off, especially woodies! Tony Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
A 60 degree wash with no soap, and then line dried is the way for myself, also used to leave the ghillie suit on a nail in the straw barn at my permission. interesting stuff about the detergent there phantom! you learn something new everyday Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I know Phantom, I can remember the UV lights in discos in the eighties, sigh, they were new then, white T shirts used to fluoresce blue! Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I remember reading something in one of the Airgun comics as they are sometimes called, recently, about a detergent and conditioner that smells like old leaves! Quote Link to post

davyt63 1,845
hi buddy all above advise is good BUT!!!! you stalk/static shoot down wind of your quarry so if you was smelling like a kipper just out of billings gate market.it would not smell you! because you are down wind! I only ever wash ( sorry Joanne washes) my shooting trousers when covered in mud/horse shit, I put em on when I am out next and still bag up,so try not to worry about it to much regards Davy Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
You can remove the scent as much as you want out of your hunting attire but if your stalking skills and use of the wind is not correct the quarry will hear or smell you long before you see them. Humans are one of the smelliest animals (fact). Stealth, cunning and a good plan all aids in filling your game bag. Before i went to work in Canada i went shooting 2 or 3 times with a lad who used to be on this forum but left due to some negative posts on here. He always left his shooting attire out in the rain and smelt like a ferret every time he got in my car. He refused to wash it as he said it helps with his shooting. I wash my attire but use the skills mentioned above and 2 or 3 times it was me 9 him 2, me 6 him 1 and me 2 and him none. I'm not saying im a better shooter or hunter than him but using the story to prove a point. Si. Edited January 5, 2012 by zini Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
If you smell of flowers, then you'll blend in to the countryside just fine Quote Link to post
