4 shot dead in peterlee with shotgun

Recommended Posts

Firearms and shotgun licences are too easy to get a hold of IMO. Know of a few young lads with guns who spend every weekend coked out their mind. Too many licences being given out.

Await the barrage of abuse...

FFS thats all we need. Couldn't the twat just have shot himself.....

I think he needs to look at the death toll from cars each year in comparison to guns of any type.

why dont these whack jobs go and shoot up a mosque if there so inclined to go on a gun rampage

Just looked on the BBC and the latest is that both parties had been out drinking and there was big argument.

The claims that he had threatened self harm were made by an individual and therefore it was one persons word against the other and no evidence of anything else.

I suspect booze had more to play in this tragedy than anything else like depression etc

Ban Alcohol?

Thought us dog boys were the bad apple in fieldsports? Never catch us dog lads running round setting our lurchers on people :whistling:

On a serious note it's tragic that the authorities let it get to that stage, when the signs had been there prior to take the guns off of him, not a good time for shooters at the moment,

RIP the innocent lives taken.

My FEO said ''The problem we have is that you can have a 50 year old proffesional, with not a jot on his record, who applies for a FAC/SGC and as long as they have permission, accepted referees etc then we can't refuse. They may not have any experience but it doesn't matter, even if the CC apples conditions they can still legally buy and possess firearms.''

It's a wonder there aren't more ''accidents'' (negligence) reported concerning legally held firearms/shotguns....

To be frank, it is easier to buy an illegal, unregistered (and probably prohibited) firearm than go through the application process (and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong).

Blokes like that can't be 'regulated', irrespective of firearms ownership it seems these people will use whatever is to hand to hurt/kill others, I just wonder how long it is before someone has the balls to say it to the public.

Drink Driving Statistics

• On average 3,000 people are killed or seriously injured each year in drink drive collisions.

• Nearly one in six of all deaths on the road involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit.

puts it in perspective doesn't it so which do we ban cars or drink since both are remarkably accessible??

Thats a bit of an arseit argument is it not?

Driving and drinking are rights not privelages. Gun ownership in this country, and rightly so, is a privellage not a right.

Too many c**ts think they should have one, even with a rape and a serious assault on their record and when they dont get one they appeal.

Any small hint of illegal activity, irresponsibility, health conditions (particularly mental health), inexperience or lack of need and you should not be granted a certificate and if you already have it should be revoked. No questiones asked.

as you can only drive when licensed and it can be taken away that would make driving a privilege wouldn't' it? in my opinion too many twats are allowed to drive that should never be.

That goes without saying.

Fact is there are too many people who have been given guns who should never ever own them, whos fault is that and how do you rectify it now?

Yes there will always be the odd gun nut with legally held firearms and you cant prevent that without banning then entirely. But they are given out like sweeties around these parts. Shotguns moreso than rifles I must add, should shotgun licencing be the same as firearms? To deter those who get a licence on a whim as it is too much effort.

I got an 8 shot semi auto when I was 17 lol

I said the same thing after the Derrick Bird incident last year.

No need for tighter laws, they can't get much tighter. But there needs to be more information sharing between medical practices and the police when it comes to license holders and to me, if I were the police and someone told me they had depression the first thing to go from that house would be their guns!

Its just common sense, not laws and rules.

that won't work becuase I reckon if they started linking medical records to the police people who have guns will be less inclined to recieve help for depression if they have guns for fear of them being taken away. Leaving a lot of people with depression with out they help they need and a cabinet full of guns.

To have a SGC it is a right that the police have to prove you shouldn't have, with a FAC you need good reason to have one and prove it.

All the shooters that think hunting with dogs should have been banned need their licences removed. :toast:

you say to many are given a licence that shouldn't' have one yet how many cases like this can you remember?

In every case where a mass killing has taken place the police had prior dealings with the murderer so are the rules tough enough "yes", should the police actually do their job and stop blaming the innocent "yes" in my opinion in all these cases the blame lies firmly with the plod and their poor handling of the situation if the rules must change then it should be harder for people with previous to own a gun and they should be assessed much more frequently any genuine call for concern and ticket should be gone for good.

all true , you will NOT be able to legislate for the human mind , doctors reports etc may weed out a few but in reality it is almost impossible to tell who or when WERE these tragic incidents will take place , a highliy trained sub mariner who by the nature of the stressfull job would have been interviewd by medical professionals , still turned a gun on a crew member and killed THE CURRENT SYTEM IS FINE ,
