I had the 440 in Realtree camo and a very nice, accurate springer it was too and while I had it, the Gamo put plenty in the bag.

It's no Weihrauch, but it was more than enough for full range hunting.

I have a fair bit of experience tuning Gamo air guns, having owned a Hunter 440, Shadow 1000 and a Whisper X. I note that each of these is on the product range shown on the Gamo (Spain) web site. All the guns mentioned have the same engine (cylinder, piston and trigger unit). They are also very tune-able and with a bit of TLC you get a very good gun for the money. About a year ago I put up a review of the Gamo Whisper X on this forum, in the Reviews section - it should still be there so if you are interested, use the Search function. I regard mine as a keeper: it has a good barrel and easily puts pellets inside an 18mm circle at 30 yards. If you do decide to buy a Gamo you could do a lot worse than choose one of the models I have listed. If you prefer a wooden stock, the Hunter 440 fits the bill. Synthetic stock - go for the Shadow 1000. They are in fact the same gun, only with different stocks. They have steel barrels whereas the later Gamos have poly (i.e. plastic) barrels with a rifled steel liner insert. I think the newer technology works fine; my Whisper X has shot over 8000 pellets and has had a hard life, but it still shoots really well. Many 'old school' Gamo enthusiasts would rather buy a Shadow or Hunter model with a conventional steel barrel. If you are interested I can give you details of where you can buy after-market tuning parts which will transform the 'out of the box' Gamo almost beyond recognition in the way it shoots. Good luck.

You cannot use an air rifle for any form of live hunting (vermin or game) in Spain! So watch out for the CNP!
