Hand Operated Mincers

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried one of those tinned/cast iron, hand operated, clamp to worktop mincers that are quite common on the net, I just wondered if they will cope with chicken and rabbit bones. :hmm:

Yep, have two of them here, one is a modern type thing that is ideal for chickens and rabbits, the other is an older one with a slightly different design and does heavier stuff like lamb ribs and necks. (although lamb ribs i feed 'as is')

Both are made from cast iron and do the bones and all :victory:

Shepp; Why you'd want to mince such stuff is your business mate. But if ye wish to, and are going for one of those chinese made hand jobs; They come in two sizes (at least). I think the standard one's a size 12. Well, look for the twice the size one. 24 ? It's far more of a Beast. It'll munch much better, faster and ye'll be able to get more done between the soul destroying grind of having to pick and poke the thing clean and washing it all out.

munching... hand jobs... Apparently there's loads of lads in Brighton who'll hand mince till the cows come home for the price of a bacardi breezer... so i've heard... or have i got the wrong end of the stick. :drink:

If.. however.. we're talking about a porkert style table top mincer then i don't think they would cope with bones. When the pressure gets too much .. ie.. pushing stringy venison through and the mincer holes get clogged they tend to puree it and spill it back out the feeding end. Partially frozen good cuts work best which, if i'm honest, are not the sort of cuts i'd put through a mincer anyway.

I hope at least one of these helps :drink::laugh:
