Tiny 7 1,694
I used a tredmill for a couple of months, I didnt get on with them to be honest, I had 3 dogs at the time i used to take them for a good few mile before hand and then back home for a quick blast on the walker, To be honest the time it took me to put 3 dogs on the one at a time have half hour or so on it at steady pace, It would take me a couple of hours to get all 3 trotted on there and if was only an extra few mile they was doing anyway plus as Moll said you have to be right there with them as there jogging, Think about it set it at say 6/7 mph for half hour was only an extra 3 3/half mile, I just deceide to walk them free running for an extra hour or so a day and so was doing more miles than what they were dog on the tredmill, So i didnt get on with them personal found it much easyer just to walk them or bike them that bit extra. Iam not saying they wouldnt be good for some people and there dogs but i just never seen any benifts on mine, Cause i know coursing/greyhound/bull lads all the world over have used such things to great levels and got the results they were after useing them, But they might not be for everyone Quote Link to post
L8SPORTS 19
Treadmills are brilliant for fitness & what is fitness ? RECOVERY' fitness is Judjed by how fast you or your dog recovers from the run or if you were a boxer the pads the bag the short sprint or for the DOG its the chase ! For explosive power you need to be fit to keep dishing them hard runs out Treadmills condition the muscle for endurance and any one who fights or traines hard knows that your muscle has memory and so dose a dogs. All that said its only one of the ingredients that make up the dish and I'm a firm beleaver in road work for dog or man but like a human it can be heavy on the joints and getting a dog up to scratch by chasing can make him prone to injury because he ain't fit so they do have there uses as a tool to get them fit with out to much strain. Slat mill and carpet mills are in my opinion better' you rely no when the Doggs had enough and slat mill is good for the pads. I think mill work a month before the season starts is perfect for you and the dog 1 day on 1 day off build up the distance over the weeks and give your dog a good massage after it beleave me there is some strong bonding achieved this way. 1 Quote Link to post
