secretagentmole 1,701
Well had to try out the Christmas pressie, a set of Jack Pyke hunter clothing, weird stuff, when it rains water just sits on it and it does not get wet! Nice and warm too! Now one of permission holders recently moved, and I phoned them to ascertain what was going on, who had the property now and would they still let me on? He said they should do, it is my daughter and son in law who have the place now. So round to front gate in Jack Pyke, pressed the intercom button and the son in law appeared. I asked him if I could shoot in the wood at the bottom, he asked what I had got, so I showed him Tiger, he was very impressed with her, he is a keen shotgunner himself and will be putting a clay machine in the bottom, but yes, go ahead, have fun! When asked what I could shoot he said anything legal, I did ask him about pheasants and he said well if you get two or three I would not mind 1! So permission sort of lost, regained, and now time to practise forest fun. Got in the wood and put the bags down. I tried to walk quietly, but under the leaves were decades old dead branches, it sounded more like a herd of baby elephants ballet dancing in a matchstick factory. Pigeons pigged off! So I sweep down to the earth with my feet and wait for them to come back. Walking round I did spot a rabbit, but I was coming round the corner of the pagoda in the garden, rabbit runs! Never mind, there are some there! Going back into the bushes I trod where I had not cleared and a pheasant flew to a tree, sat on the branch trying to outstare the gaze of a Hawke 50mm lens. A small squeeze on the trigger and a Crosman Premier sped through the air, finding the head with a satisfying thwack! So that is the third pheasant this year, what is more there are still loads down there. Just got to practise forest maneuvers! Quote Link to post

The Duncan 802
Nice going Moley Bagged an impressive cock pheasant myself today. It must have been an more 'ornamental' variety as the feathers were a little more elaborate and prone to loosing bits (made a proper mess when I plucked it!). Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I had one of those last time, blue on the back, no ring on the neck, think they are the Common Pheasant, on my permission they are not that common! Quote Link to post
