spartan_ferret 6
OK so plain and simple question, what i carry with me when i go out with me two ferrets is: knife 9 purse nets ( i know i need more...) locator + 2 collars Spade water gloves so thats about it, I have recently brought a long net but havent been out with it yet. But what does everyone else take with them? I would like to know to give me better ideas and things that could help in the future for e.g I was out with me mate and we had to dig down to the ferret but after a couple of feet the soil got really hard and stoney and all we had was a spade and progress pretty much came to a stand still. A mattock/pick axe would of been good to break the soil up but i dont wanna be carrying it around as extra weight. So for next time i might take a crowbar instead thinking it will work the same. Does anyone recommend what i should use ? cheers for any in put guys Quote Link to post
vduben 55
what kind of spade do you take? i use a grafter with a short end on it if you get me? but i also take a round mouth, i take about 60 nets, knife, gloves and when we do this certain place i take a 2m bar! Quote Link to post

darbo 4,776
all of the above plus flat headed nails to use on trees when i cant get a purse net to hang. 6mm garden canes come in useful when netting akward holes secatears a must all my ferreting is in woodland. bright coloured golf tees to put down as a marker where the ferret has killed in usually stop ends. try to dig as a last resort but on ocassions if a ferret has left the kill i can still dig to retrieve the rabbit or rabbits by having the marker in place where the ferret has killed in. some of my ferrets over the years stay with the kill some kill and move on. i have often been sucessful using these markers finding rabbits if the ferret kills and moves on. a probe a useful tool.just ivested in some stop nets. also wire bolt traps if i am ferreting near to a main road. 1 Quote Link to post
spartan_ferret 6
I do have one off those folding spades but when i was digging in stoney/rocky soil it just started to bend, i have a full size spade which is it a lot better but i will still take the fold up one cos it does come in handy. can someone show me what a ''bar'' is please. I have in mind what i think it is but not too sure. secatears is a good idea they would defo come in handy in some places i go too. Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
all of the above plus flat headed nails to use on trees when i cant get a purse net to hang. All you need is cocktail sticks break them in half, they stick in the bark easy, also secateurs, very handy. a small handy folding saw. and four poke nets. i personally like to keep the weight down, so no picks, or bars, you need a good spade, i use a bulldog, plus the usually nets, locators. last but not least a 18 inch probe.
