Oiling/Lubricating Pellets

Recommended Posts

Not knocking it, just can't be bothered with it, as the ability to hit swan vesta heads at 30 yards is good enough for me - 8 out of 10 anyway and those that miss are within 1/2". Plenty good enough for my needs. I don't do the competition thing, in anything. I am competitive enough with myself.

If you are shooting in clinically clean conditions, such as those in competition circles, where you have pellet holders and that kind of thing. You might gain a few % advantage - BUT pellet lube is going to have a dirt attracting aspect to it. My pellets just get tipped out of the tin into a leather pouch - some soft pouch and some hard leather pouch. That's it. I don't sort out damaged ones, or weigh them, I just pick them out and use them. If there is a really damaged one I toss it, but otherwise they just get "fire formed" as they go down the barrel. In my pocket I bet lube would attract dust and remove the advantage gained in the first place.

If you are going to use any kind of lube, take better care of your pellets than I do!

hi

my view is whether your an Olympic champion or a dedicated hunter, you are after the same goal!

precision! every one wants to hit the bullseye/kill zone every time.and to be the best/and humane!

so if lubing your pellets achieves tighter groups then so be it!

I wash and lube all my pellets and just discard the skirts that are damaged! as they will not be accurate as an undamaged pellet.

BUT BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!

that lubing your pellets will add extra FT/LBS to your air rifle (not a great deal) so make sure you chrono it after lubing

just a heads up !!

I would have thought that with the thin skirts of the modern pellets, the less moving around the better, weigh them by all means, as i'm told there can be variable pellets. Not into competitev shooting only hunting, and bin badly dented skirts, and shooting aint that bad,

Mine go from the tin into the magazine, the magazine gets put in the gun and the spare goes into a pellet out made out of game bag material, so no dust dirt etc!

Always lube mine and discard any mis-shapen pellets. Definitely tightens up the groupings quite noticeably and most trophy winning FT shooters do the same.

good job i only shoot living things then as i might miss all those targets without a good lube

Spot on mate for shooting in the field at 35yds how tight a groups do you need!

Oh and dont forget the 6-16 x 60 scope (min) cos after all we cant see that well at 35yds either!!!
